How much FG spent ain't my concern to be honest. This is Nigeria so I know the figures gonna be padded definitely.

My point is simple, if indeed we are Giant of Africa, we shouldn't shy away from helping our Neighbours.

The delusion that we are a giant is the cause of a large number of our problems. It is why we are unable to tighten belt and take hard decisions but rather keep spending money as if there is no tomorrow.

You should be worried. All this padding is no longer sustainable.

I have seen companies die for this same reason. An inability to exercise financial discipline and understand the good times are gone.

In 2015, most companies stopped buying cars for staff except it is absolutely necessary. But the govt parastatls are still buying staff brand new cars as if it is 2005.

The 2008 Toyota corolla was so common I would literally see a line of the car in different colours when going to work.

I know people who used the stock market to finance their masters back then.

That was true until 2009 when the stock market that giveth took away from me

A lot of youths just talk and try to pretend Nigeria has always been hard.

Charles Soludo forced banks to consolidate to 25 billion capitalisation. The banks that made it through were flush with money. That was the time when fresh grads were getting 200k jobs in banks, at a time dollar was n110 or so.

Telcos required support companies. Guys were pulling over 200k in Ericsson and Motorola. I was first working in a consulting firm servicing mtn. MTN built so many structures, facilities etc and a whole chain of people got paid. Consultants, builders, service providers.

Then you had the privatisation of national oil, unipetrol, etal.

In some ways I think this is why Obj was chasing third term. Because he recognised that a lot of what he had done could be scattered. When third term failed he tried remote control via yardua.

Almost immediately yardua reversed sale of nnpc refineries, abandoned nepa revamp (transformers for the gas power stations), scattered virgin Nigeria, destroyed efcc, and basically started us on the path to regression. GEJ was a man completely out of his depth who let the good times roll with no plan for tomorrow.

And Buhari is the completely aloof leader who scattered what was left.

This is totally correct and aligned with what I experienced in the mid 2000s in Nigeria

This Niger car purchase something is another reason why Buhari's government is just vibes and insha Allah, everybody do what he likes.
Purchasing of Cars or sending aids to your neigbouring countries happens always so Why are they hiding it ? Or is it that the PR of the government is just as useless as buhari too?

one of the saddest most obvious signs of the regression - in 2006, we were buying 2003 corolla, honda pilot, highlander. now in 2022, so many of are buying the same cars. a car one has see finish. i remember the 2003 honda ridgeline, a car that looked so sexy to me at the time, but now i know is mostly a dud - and that is what so many of us are buying now. if you even have the disposable income to order a more recent model - the import duty will kick you in the nuts.

izzou will tell you how dem dey rush 2003 corolla sote the car is abive 3m now. a 19 year old car cry cry cry cry angry angry angry

I thought u guys had a gentlemanly agreement that everybody should campaign for their candidates and try to convince people as to why the candidate is the best man for the job.....But all u are stilll doing is attacking their own candidate and trying to pull him down.

In a way u are one of those causing unnecessary rancour on this thread o.

Exactly. Always using snide, indirect means of attack. Sometimes i don’t fault Don J for his aggressive style of evangelism

Maybe it's a campaign strategy to rile opposing camp members up and then they react in a negative way u turn to the whole world and ask them to see how the supporters of their MCM are behaving ó....

More like Omatseye guy whose article *....OBITUARY * other journalists have described as distasteful and complete character assassination; he turned back to claim he's been receiving death threats from Obi's stans. Maybe it's a strategy, one can never tell

Can someone help interprete this statement? The English dey confuse me. How can a child apply for settlement after 5 years when the child needs to have to lived for 7 years in the first place. Or is it 5 years after the initial 7 years making it a total of 12 years?

"A child who is born outside the UK but who has lived in the UK continuously for 7 years will be able to apply for settlement after 5 years rather than 10 years as is the case at present"
