Hi guys I suggest we use Telegram. With telegram you can have up to 10000+ members in a group. Plus it has most whatsApp functionalities we'll be needing.

I can create a group for the August 15 set and we move on from there.

Op. This is better called Web development and not software engineering. Software engineering is not Web programming. It is beyond that.
So C and scripting with bash is now web development? After learning how to write scripts with bash, the introductory programming language on ALX is C. Get your facts right, and stop saying what you don't know, you will only end up displaying your ignorance in public.

Telegram is a good idea but I'm not on telegram

Besides, when the program eventually commences, you wouldn't have time for social medias because you have Slack (alx community which is very important), WhatsApp, and then there's telegram

It is better you keep a straight focus on WhatsApp

What you call software engineering is at most the backend of web application development or better still elementary software development. Though there might be some overlap, but is is not the real software engineering. The bolded is merely what you must learn to interact with Linux. Now, about 80% of software engineering isn't even direct programming. What I just see there is just a guide to freelance development. Real software engineers usually are not freelancers or contractors. They work in teams at corporations. If it were software engineering, these are the kind of topics you'll see excluding Java, Python, Go etc.

Designing with UML, Reusable Code, Advanced OOP principles, Design patterns, Software architecture, SaaS design on servers and the Cloud, Kubernetes and Docker, Requirements elicitation, Systems programming/ Operating systems, Estimation and efficiency, Domain analysis etc. A lot more depending on the projects you work on.

If you want to develop advanced software whether accessed via web or any platform at all, you can never escape all these. But you'll notice that these things are hardly mentioned in the Nigerian ecosystem. You only hear stuff like Django, REST APi and Node and all other tools frameworks and languages. This is because majority are into web development. In web development you can be a freelancer easily.

If as a web developer, you are called to design a web based software that autonomously controls a production line through a remote server, will you be able to do it? Even though it has to do with a server and a nice interface to it maybe, that is just the channel. The main job is the hosted software at the backend. Those are the kind of things that software engineers tackle. It is called Engineering for a good reason. Just like other Engineering disciplines, It is extensive and takes years to learn not months.

Sigh
This isn't up for argument, the field of software engineering is quite verse, though you're right but let it be known to you that with the skills alx is trying to install in us, you will be able to work as a DevOp engineer, data engineer, frontend or backend engineer, so this argument is really unnecessary unless you haven't seen the requirements for software engineers on job descriptions

If you still want to prove your point then check LinkedIn and tag alx_africa and Holberton coding school to explain yourself, good day!

Lately, I'm more active on LinkedIn and WhatsApp, just case you want us to connect

https:// www.linkedin. com/in/tracy-okorie-8ba64b214

Alx has frustrated on different projects but the recent printf project eh... Omo

That one is on another different level, picture playing a game, let's say COD, as a beginner you keep increasing your level, when you eventually start playing with others, you realize you're a big noob

Honestly this printf project has made me gone through hell back and forth, no jokes! The checkers felt giving errors in certain places and there was no way to confirm where the error is coming from.

I have been updating my journey on LinkedIn and connected with a lot of people. The second group for August cohort already has a lot of people, some from Nairaland and most from LinkedIn. We even had a Google meeting last year just to give a brief introduction to the program and it was really interesting.
