Rivers Governor Nyesom Wike has vowed that anybody undervaluing the political capability of his State will be taught a painful lesson in 2023.

Wike spoke at the inauguration of the Orochiri -Worukwo (Waterlines junction) flyover that was performed by Lagos Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu in Port Harcourt on Monday.
The Governor explained that the dynamics of contemporary politics had made it unpopular to just gift votes away without the assurance of derivable benefit for the people.

Wike said: “If you say Rivers State does not matter, Rivers State will tell you that you don’t also matter at the appropriate time. If you don’t like us, we will not like you. If you like us, we will like you.

“Nobody will use our votes for nothing. Our votes will matter and Rivers State must benefit from anybody that we are going to support.

“Politics now is no longer just vote for somebody, it is about what you will do for the people of Rivers State.”

Wike said it would be difficult for any conspirator to upset the voting pattern of Rivers State and support for the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

The Governor insisted that those who looted the treasury of the state would not be supported to become governor of Rivers State.

He said: “My guest from Lagos State, let nobody tell you story that anybody will come here to win as governor of Rivers State. It will not happen.

“Those who looted the treasury of the State will not come here to be governor of Rivers State and I have challenged them.
“I am fully in charge. I am not that kind of governor people will go to Abuja and hold meetings against. I am fully in charge here.”
Wike also challenged those envious of his developmental strides to show their capacities by executing projects and inviting renown persons to inaugurate them.

He explained the invitation of the Lagos Governor was not the first time persons of other political parties were urged to inaugurate projects in Rivers State.
Sanwo-Olu, who inaugurated the Orochiri-Worokwu (Waterlines) Flyover, commended Wike for his strong commitment to the delivery of physical infrastructure in Rivers State.

He said: “I would like to specially commend my brother, Governor Wike, for his strong commitment to the delivery of physical infrastructure in Rivers State, a commitment that has been recognized by all and sundry, and which has earned him the appellation of ‘Mr. Projects’ within and outside Rivers State.”

Sanwo-Olu said though he and Wike belonged to different political persuasions, the invitation extended to him sent a very strong message that political leaders could come together across political and ideological divides, for the good of the people.

APC loyalists will always vote APC. PDP loyalists will vote PDP, now Kwankwaso already moved his PDP structure to NNPP and in Kano today, PDP is the third force.

Lastly, Kwakwanso will eventually back one of Atiku/Tinubu through the back door, anyone that get his backing will win Kano. I don’t see him leaving NNPP, he’ll just be there and donate his vote to the alliance candidate.

Wike too will never leave PDP. His existence in Rivers is dependent on PDP and he will vent his anger in the usual political way to get back at Atiku.

Let me ask you a question.

—In the SE, do you agree that Atiku would have gotten all the votes Peter Obi would get if he were to be the only one on the ballot? That means Atiku is handicapped in the SE.

—In the SS, do you agree to the above for Atiku too? Infact Tinubu vote that he would have gotten in the SS will not be affected by any of Atiku/Obi because those that will vote Tinubu will still vote him either ways. He will get some votes in Bayelsa, Delta, and Edo.

Atiku and Obi in the situation means that even if Asiwaju gets 25% in any of these states, Atiku or Obi will both share the remaining 75% and the margin will be too small to effect a change.

—In the NW/NE, those that will vote Tinubu will still vote him even tho truly the vote margin will eventually decrease. But APC structure will be APC structure, Atiku/Kwakwanso are banking on same PDP structure.

—In the NC, same thing will happen here. Some few people in Benue/Plateau will vote LP, and the guaranteed 50% that Atiku ought to have gotten in that NC will be shared by Peter Obi even if it’s just 15%. That will give the APC a small edge.

Peter Obi built a new road in Port Harcourt

Let me tell you about my personal encounter with Peter Obi about two decades ago. I was living in Port Harcourt along Ada George Rd, off Kala in Obio Akpo LGA. Obi had a warehouse on Kala rd. He was a major importer of canned products like Heinz salad cream,Baked Beans Ketchups, sweet corn, corned beef etc.

His trucks bringing goods to his warehouse constituted real nuisance to traffic. It got to a point during the rainy season where we could no longer access our homes and had to resort to parking in El Shaddai Nursery/ Primary School before trekking home. So the Chairman of Kala Residents community,Chief Ogolo convened a meeting to chart the way forward. We were all asked to pay some money towards fixing the road and I was appointed as the treasurer.

Just when we were rounding up,Peter Obi sauntered in and I was quick to attack him for being the major contributor to the problem which burden was now on our collective neck. I honestly expected him to arrogantly shout me down and intimidate everyone. But what he did,disarmed most of us who were spoiling for a fight against this rich man. First of all,he stood up and apologized for coming late to the meeting, due to traffic at Aba,on his way from Onitsha. He averred that until that moment, he was not aware of the trauma his business activities were causing the residents and pledged to singlehandedly find a solution to our problem.

This meeting held on a Saturday and by Monday morning, heavy duty equipment were lined up, preparatory to the work. By Wednesday, remedial and rehabilitation work had commenced and by the following Monday,we were driving smoothly to our houses. Peter Obi had singlehandedly constructed drainages and resurfaced the Kala Road.

That showed me how noble the man was, long before he dabbled into politics.
