That statement is deep but very correct

You're 100% right. If you accidentally cross a bump before Trams rail at JBR while the traffic light is red, you'll be fined 30,000dhr (N3.3m).

Nobody would arrest or chase you, coz Cam has captured your plate number already, and be certain to receive fine Alert on your phone as far as you're a Resident (with Emirates ID).

Now imagine no fuel subsidy. Chaos and anarchy will have ensued.

Subsidy will still have to go either ways but Diesel and jet fuel non subsidy has shown us that fuel subsidy must be tactically removed.

I think power should be steady to an extent before the subsidy on fuel is removed. In the short term, govt needs to make fuel subsidy payment transparent.

Lack of transparency and accountability is what breeds distrust of the govt.

Power is already fked

only households and small businesses run on petrol

everyone else is diesel.

and today subsidy is just english as it is fully financed by nnpc via - underecovery - but thats is also still not transparent

as no one identified or punished nnpcs methanol laden fuel partners

Larride, in this we share a common ground but the question still remains;

WHY HAVEN'T THE GOVERNMENT DONE THIS IN THE PAST 8 YEARS??
Remember that they campaigned on removing subsidy, so why haven't they done so?

the government DID remove the subsidy

in 2016 or so - when saudi arabia was trying to kill shale oil mand flooded the market, forcing price of oil down. at that point price of fuel was effectively achieveale without a subsidy

so with small fanfare, the admin eleminated subsidy

then price of oil started climbing, landing cost of product rose, and the government could not allow Marketers to provide PMS at market rates

so they returned subsidy as underrecoevry, executed by NNPC only

the reason why subsidy cannot be eliminated is what you posted - diesel and ATK are deregulated

diesel is at at least 700k/litre
ATK is at 800k/litre

what do you think will happen if tehy start selling petrol at 800k/litre?

right now, PMS is at 170 to 185 in lagos. everyone has increased fares. now ahat do you think a 500% increase will do?

everyone watched and learned from the response to GEJ's poorly thought out and jan 1 fk you in the arse removal of subsidy.

it is a lightning rod. unless we can sort out local production, subsidy in any interation or name will have to remain

you just curdsed the government over the rice of airfare.

now what do you think the price of petrol will do to SMEs?

i am working from home, and i run on petrol generators. even now i have already started cutting back. how many people can work or do anything on N800/litre perol cost?

It's only in your head that you think people criticizing Tinubu means they are criticizing the entire yoruba race and you have to be a goddamn fool to believe really believe that.

I have multiple Yoruba relatives. My uncle's from both sides married yoruba women. I have half Yoruba cousins. These my uncle's moved to Lagos more than 30 years ago, preceding Tinubu.

The fact that the Tinubu campaign is centered on just tribalism and division shows you how much of a terrible president this man will be if elected but God forbid BAT thing..

Ever ready to divide us and sacrifice unity for the sake of a selfish ambition.
Obasanjo is a yoruba man, he was voted in by many igbo people and ihe is still regarded as one of our better presidents we've seen.

Do you see any body hating on Obasanjo? But no, because we don't want a corrupt drug baron and grand looter who is 90 years old to rule us, we now hate the entire yoruba race. Take time oo.

They actually removed Subsidy during the oil price crash in 2015/2016 but it had to be introduced back when the prices began to go up again in the name of under-recovery by nnpc being the supposed "sole" importer of nnpc.

One problem this administration has is lack of communication, any govt that fails to communicate to its citizens as at when non state actors fill the vacumn.

even then - it was clearly inevitable that subsidy would return

we needed high oil prices

how do you want it - low income from low oil prices with no fuel subsidy
or rising income from rising fuel prices and rising fuel subsidy

We needed the revenue badly.

Another issue is gas price, the price hike is ridiculous.

So the same Tinubu that made John Akabueze(Anambra Indigene) one of his commissioners in 2007 is a tribalist?

How many Yoruba men have been commissioners in Obi’s Anambra State?

Akpabio better cook for APC in his state if he intends to achieve his aim of being Senate president

President - SW
VP - NE
SP - SS/SE (any Senator who has spent at least 1 term in Senate and who is able to win election under APC)
Speaker - NC
DSP - NW
Deputy Speaker - (any HoR member who has spent at least 1 term in Senate and who is able to win election under APC)

I was discussing with someone today, he said that yorubas supporting Tinubu are tribalistic, I said I disagree, he insisted. So I said Igbos supporting Obi are tribalistic, he still disagreed, telling me that they igbos voted against Ojukwu in 2003, so it proves that they are not tribalistic. cheesy
Anyways, there is no denying the tribal element in Nigeria political pysche, but I will always resist "good for thee but no for me" mentality.

I want to let you know that I agree with this for the most part. It is clear as day even on here.

Meanwhile, why do people still refer to 2003-2011 elections data like they are truly representative of Nigeria? We all know Obasanjo conducted the worst elections in Nigerian history especially 2007. The 2003 one is a close 2nd. I can barely make reference to the 2003 data without having my stomach turn while I am at it.

The Yorubas on the whole are arguably the least tribalised of the 3 most populous tribes. I've stated that in preceding months and years on this forum.

But it comes with a caveat: If you speak the language and adopt the cultures in some ways, you are more likely to be accepted an accorded more rights in communities than in other two regions.

You are less likely to experience tribal-fueled prejudice in Ogun State than in Abia State.
Maybe it's because of the proximity to Lagos and the close to a century of it being an administrative/economic capital of Nigeria.

Gbenga Daniel had SAs from other tribes when he was governor. Same in Lagos too.

Being the least tribalistic of the 3 doesn't make you not tribal - you are just as guilty of tribalism. But there are many exceptions in this for the worse.
Exceptions like the Oba of Lagos threatening genocide on Igbos if they don't vote Tinubu's choice - no Igbo, Fulani/Hausa traditional ruler has ever been silly enough to say something like this.
------
Since the reason for supporting Tinubu of the options isn't based on merit - He's old, sickly and has question marks in every stage of his past which are not presidential traits anywhere in the world - the only other plausible reason is tribalism. Tribalism is the enemy of logic.

-----
I can love the EPL with all my life then troll other EPL clubs with vindictiveness while loving only one of the clubs.

Two truths can exist.

Go back to that someone that he’s trying to be clever by half.

Obasanjo lost all the SW states in 1999. Even in his Ogun State and his polling unit, he lost massively.

A certain tribe voting against a candidate of their own tribe does not necessarily remove tribalism. It is such a cheap point to score in any rational discourse.

What the country needs is the Dangote refinery to come on stream, and for other smaller refineries to be licensed.
Yes, increased local production wouldn’t drastically bring down the price of fuel/diesel, but 30% reduction in price will be feasible.

Dangote refinery is not going to do nada

The man is up to his eyeballs in debt. He has to start making money as soon as it comes on stream.

He may even sell above market price sef. People in the know have said Nigeria may not even be his prime customer. He is placing the refinery at that position so he can ship product by sea.

I have read somewhere that adenuga has a refinery somewhere in wa. Naija is not his customer

This is the kicker - in the oil industry the money is in extraction. Downstream and midstream are not income earners

You see the way gas stations are set up in obodo oyibo? Its because the real revenue is from shop sales. So you pump your gas and go through several rows of goods to get to the cashier.of course you pick something

Petrol business only makes money in naija because of very poor regulation. People adjust pump and settle dpr. People do not build stations to standard. I can build a station with 300m,fully environmentally compliant, and you can build at 90m with tanks and pipes that will start leaking in 3 years. Na same market we go enter.

Right now, only total is building stations to world standards. Texaco did, but those days are long gone. They are now fully Nigerianised right up to stations blowing up. Mobil will soon go same way.

If standards were enforced, stations would cost a lot more and you the investor will hear it before you make back your investment.
