Pastors Abstaining from Partisan Politics: Wise or Unwise?

There is a common opinion that pastors should neither identify with any political party nor actively participate in party politics. Over the years, when clergy men were few and churches even fewer, it seems wise that Pastors remain political neutral, at least in the public.

But nowadays, many things have changed. We now have many churches, and each having thousands of branches all over the country. Since each branch of the church we have some people to shepherd the flock, wand with each branch having tens of pastors based on its size and population, we now have many pastors.

If you gather 10 serious christians, don't be surprised that 2 of them with be pastors and assistant pastors one one church or the other, while about 3-4 of the others may be ministers or training to become a pastor sooner or later. What is the implication of this for politics and christian participation?

Your realization is as good as mine. Now that we have majority of serious christians appointed as pastors or ministers in their churches, if we think pastors should not participate in politics, we will be left with just a tiny population of serious christians to engage in politics.

This could lead to low impact of godly people in politics, except we change our mindset.

CHANGE OF MINDSET IS NECESSARY
Based on present realities, the wise attitude is to adopt the football fans attitude. In football entertainment, people of the same church or family can support different football clubs without seeing each other as enemies. This is because it is entertainment that is the common ground. We are all seeking entertainment through different clubs that we prefer.

Christians should also not see other christians, including Pastors, who prefer different political parties as enemies, but fellows who share the same common interests in nation building. If it is unselfish nation building that is our common goal in politics, we shouldn't see pastors and other christians of different political leanings as enemies, but friends also working to make our societies better.

Please, let pastors participate in party politics.

They should participate. As long as no one cries foul when other religious leaders do too

cool

Partisan politics is not wise.... That doesn't stop them from partaking in Politics or Democracy just not with a political party or a preferred candidate

House of God is for all, allow all candidates to come in and make sensible demands

If so many people are now pastors and you say they shouldn't participate, have you considered how many people will be left out like that.

That strategy won't work now.....the Muslim clergy are involved in politics and people want pastors not to get involved in politics,na big lie.

What this government has done is enough for everyone to get involved because we at a junction and any decision we make determines the direction Nigeria will take.

If pastors refuses to join, then christian should not complain about country being islamized and being sidelined in any benefits. If you are not there, you won't be able to agitate for your people.
