#EndSars: Court remands man for allegedly setting BRT bus terminal on fire

The magistrate ordered that the defendant be remanded pending legal advice

By Agency Report August 11, 2022

An Ikeja Magistrate’s Court on Thursday ordered the remand of one Chinasa Michael, accused of setting fire to a BRT bus terminal at Oyingbo in Lagos during a protest in the year 2020 over alleged police abuses.

The defendant, 21, who is unemployed and resides at No. 21, Ilogbo St., Apapa Road, Lagos, is being tried for conspiracy, arson, and causing the breach of peace.

The magistrate, M.C. Ayinde, who refused to take the defendant’s plea, ordered that he should be remanded in Kirikiri Correctional centre until 1 September, pending legal advice.

Mrs Ayinde ordered that the case file should be duplicated and sent to the office of the Lagos State Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) for legal advice.

The prosecution counsel, Segun Oke, told the court that the offences were committed in October 2020 at the Oyingbo BRT bus terminal, Lagos.

Mr Oke said Mr Michael and others at large set the BRT bus terminal on fire during the #EndSars protest.

The offences, he said, contravened the provisions of Sections 168, 343 and 411 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.

Good. It's high time those who orchestrated the attack on Lagosians during the Endsars protest be made to face the law.

If it is even possible, those who blocked roads and didn't allow people to move about should also be arrested and trialed. The nonsense happening in this country must stop.

You can protest your grievances in more civil ways than setting people properties on fire. Don't do the crime if you're not ready to do the time.

Very good. Destruction of public property is unacceptable, obnoxious and despicable. In as much as I support the End SARS movement, anyone who has a hand in burning the courts, BRT terminals and police stations should be prosecuted..

Chinasa left his Godforsaken village to burn Lagos BRT.

But no worries. Peter Obi will pardon him and every other ipob miscreant when he is sworn-in

I don't believe anyone was arrested that day. Certainly, the police were suspiciously absent.

But it fits the pattern. Pick up a non-indigene from the South East, stress the fact that his state of origin is Anambra and try to push the arson on him. All ties to the plot to frame the whole drama as 'outsiders burning down Yoruba land'.

They'll need to explain why suspects are just being arraigned nearly two years after the arson, explain how he was determined to be the arsonist and when/how he was arrested with no police in sight.

Hard not to be skeptical, tbh.
