Bar1941: Respecting other people's religion and beliefs also means respecting "infidels" who hold different beliefs. I've come to realize that religion tries to condition us to not have an open mind. There was a time people believed the earth was flat. Today we know the earth is round. The first set of people that challenged the wrong belief that the "earth is flat" were killed. Saying the "earth is round" was like blasphemy in those days. There was a time the holy books were exclusive preserve of a few. Later there were attempts to make the big books (scrolls) into smaller sizes for everyone to read. Those who made the attempts were killed. It was blasphemy to try to make the holy books available to everyone to read. Today we have the holy books in our phones. Once upon a time a king whose wives kept giving birth to only females resulted to killing the wives thinking it was their faults for not giving birth to a male child. Today, science proved the foolish king wrong. He, as a matter of fact, was to blame. The man's chromosomes determine the sex of a child. The one who is wrong in his belief sees those who are right as wrong. If you're open-minded, even when you know you're right, you still allow people to criticize and prove you wrong. But some people who are not open-minded, and who hold a particular belief and feel too strongly about it, they would not want you to criticize them, and they can even go to the extent of killing anyone who will dare challenge them. I've not read the book but I've known about Salman Rushdie, and how he has hid himself from jihadists. I'm even surprised a Japanese academic was killed merely for translating the book to Japanese. fergie001:I first read "The Satanic Verses" in 1991 (the book was bought in London in 1991), and the 1988 fatwa on the 75-year-old British-Indian, Salman Rushdie by Ayatollah Khomenei (who was the Iranian Supreme Shia leader), made the book to become very popular and millions of copies have been sold since 1988. The organizers of that NY event did not carry out enough threat assessment of the guests and venue. Great no life was lost. 1 Share

I have never seen a cult so obsessed with and crazy about creating stories and arguments targeted at destroying the Bible (Christianity by extension) as Islam. And yet their failure so far is yet to convince them about the futility of their efforts. As if that is not enough, the people of the Middle East (the original custodians of Islam) are accepting Christ Jesus in hordes nowadays.
