When Everton signed Onana, first thing I noticed from his YouTube highlights is he is a risky player who dribbles/runs with the ball through the centre of midfield too much. I hate that in central midfielders except they have exceptional technique to not lose it like Iniesta and Kovacic. Same thing I hated about Ramires and Bakayoko.

It did not take two minutes for Onana to run with the ball through midfield and lose it yesterday for Aston Villas second goal, almost confirming my thoughts. Onana signing by Lampard seems like just buying another Doucoure when what he needs is a replacement for Delph who has left. A sitting DM, not a runner. He would still need to complete Idrissa Gueye signing to have the right midfield in place IMO.

It's not a dig, it's a room for improvement. I've always been a James fan and was one of the main ones calling for him to be our first choice RB just from his Wigan loan spell. But he must improve his conditioning to be able to make recovery runs. Big muscles tire quicker on sprints.

It could just be that his body will always be too big, looking at his father and sister, and there is only so much you can work against nature, meaning he may have to convert to CB at some point in his career. At that position, he will still be very adept.

Robust DM always win league except Pep team. Even under Pep, their best wins with 99 points and 100 points came under a robust DM in Fernandinho, much better than the "non-robust" tally under Rodri.

Very few can be Pep, and Chelsea fans should stop trying to be a poor version of Pep. The "if it works for Pep, we should emulate it" theory never works in practice. You end up becoming a poor man's version like a Villarreal. That's what landed us with likes of Jogginghoe. It even took a robust DM like Fernandinho to improve Pep to a points tally he has never achieved before, which means even if you want to emulate Pep, robust DM is still optimal. And Rodri is not completely non robust. While he will always lose the foot races, he will always win the headers and physical duels, and has long legs to slide and stop a foot race from developing, meaning opportunity to harm City back line is halved just on his height and strength alone, which Jogginghoe doesn't possess.

Even pep have suffered from thin DM mostly in ucl, there is a reason he has two ucl from messi team only. I like Madrid style of football, an open play football but players are doing their role properly.
