A man can dream! This was me 4 months ago. wink wink

Who knows, if we rally very well, we might just come together and vote en masse for that strong third party and fade away these 2 evil parties. It seems like a pipe dream but we the youths have the numbers to do that. Less than 15 percent of the population voted in the last election. Let's bump that number up to 45% and see the magic that happens

I've said it. Lagosians will shock Tinubu. They are ready to unchain themselves from the political slavery he emeshed Lagos in.

Let's not even talk about the fact that a presidential candidate decided to use an ethnic-colored slogan as his primary label.

Nothing screams tribalism and a rabid sense of entitlement like emi lokan. It's my turn!
Don't be surprised it's Tinubu's camp that tore it, as an excuse to unleash terror on Peter Obi's camp in Lagos.

I'm confident Tinubu's camp was responsible for that, it's a lame attempt at whipping up tribal sentiments...they own the machinery for thuggery/vandalism in Lagos.

Can't you see joezinho who is even about to leave the country and immigrate to a foreign land still whipping up tribal sentiments? I'm weak bro. Blueraydick is actually right. I thought Nigerians are ready to move past tribal sentiment but it seems it's set to be worse given the ethnic makeup of the major candidates. But the worst defaulter of tribal campaigning right now is no doubt Tinubus camp. This inane attempt to link Obi and IPOB together. To link his supporters as ipob supporters, the ethno-religious campaign slogan. Emilokan etc.

We've said it before, Peter obi is not a saint, but what he is, is the best of the rest.
Voting Tinubu or osinbajo is an endorsement of this past administration and a continuation of the malady wrought upon us the last 8 years.

Things are soooo bad from how they were in 2015, mind you which we thought was also bad. This turned out to be 5 times worse. This administration effectively set us back decades. An economic failure, both fiscal and policy wise. This administration which tinubu and osinbajo are a key part of, promised to end corruption in Nigeria. Today, we're seeing with our eyes how terrible it has become, with the flagrant abuse and the dollarization of our politics.

It's not even been up to one month I made my choice on obi. Obi keeps increasing his followership because people have looked for who the better alternative to atiku, tinubu, wike, osinbajo are, and people have settled on the best among the rest.

If there was no obi, I might look on sowore or moghalu or worst of all, at frustration levels, Osibanjo.

BUT THE MOST IMPORTANT THING IS TO GET INVOLVED. GET YOUR PVC.

That is the very worst offense bro. Not voting is still voting because someone must be there and you are purposely and deliberately relinquishing your right to some else.

And know this, we all directly feel the impact of governance, whether good or bad, so if you don't vote, you are denying yourself a serious responsibility.

You are literally cutting your nose to spite your face.
Wrong choice bro. There are like 10 candidates, you have to pick one who aligns with you but you must execute your civil responsibilities.

I'm sorry for the tribal profiling but just like black Americans always see color, this election has made me become quite curious about ethnic inclinations.

I didn’t just make that up in my head when I said it and I didn’t just say it based on what I read on this thread or nairaland front page alone .

I live in Lagos , I listen to radio programs I hear people of different ethnic backgrounds call in , I meet people of different ethnic groups on a daily basis ……. I do more of listening than talking and I hear clearly the whole tribal undertone that surrounds the candidacy and followership of the top 3 candidates .

I tell u, we are not ready . Of a truth out of the 3 candidates Tinubu seem like the most detribalized on paper and going by his past antecedents but his followers/supporters are not ( They would gladly call u a bastard if they identify as a Yoruba supporting Obi). Obi has followership from other tribes but some of his supporters are extremists and bullies . Atiku supporters may not really be tribalists but they are willing to portray the other two candidates as tribalist and pitch them against each other .

My next door neighbor is a Tinubu supporter , he thinks Obi being Igbo makes him unsuitable for the job because he believes Obi is only being supported by Igbos to actualize the Biafran dream . Well I don’t know if he’s had an unpleasant encounter with Igbos in the past , but he seem not to like Igbos sha . He accepts Tinubu seem unwell but like some other Tinubu supporters he believes Tinubu is not vying for the post of a football coach or any other position that requires physical fitness . In fact he once said if Tinubu gets there he will surely get better just like buhari cos he will have access to the best of medical care. grin. (NB : This my neighbor actually lived in the UK for years and is well exposed)

Like I said earlier , I do more of listening than talking in such instances and I actually do not like making enemies out of people cos of politicians .

I’ve also met quite a handful of Obi supporters who are too aggressive about it even in a business environment . The way they go about it will make fence sitters not tilt towards their side cos there’s so much bitterness and emotion in their message instead of trying to sell their candidate on whatever merit they perceive him to have .

I think all camps have them in numbers sha

Yes on the emboldened.

I know this is needless but for context sake i will have to include it. I attended a secondary school that admit three students from each states across the federation with middle belt states having five students. My high school was a mini Nigeria,so I have an experience of how each tribe relate to one another. Yorubas related well with igbos than with any other tribe in my school and vice versa. There was no form of animosity between us. Thus,i can't think of a Yoruba man hating on igbos except online. Now think about this if you say Dayo hate igbos and not mere online ranting, was it not an igbo man that Dayo openly invited for a drink should he find himself in the USA amid his Yoruba brother like airmar.k and even his village person like me? cheesy

Bro you are correct as to the yoruba-igbo peaceful coexistence.
As I've said numerously before, no other tribe have as much coexistence as igbos and Yorubas. I myself have several intertribal cousins. I have several relatives on both sides who married inter-tribally.

After the war, many igbo businesses were returned to their Igbo owners.

Which is ironically one of the reasons I now hate Tinubu. Blueraydick get this next paragraph I'm writing very well.

Since Tinubu came into Lagos, this narrative has begun to form like he's the owner or grand leader of Lagos, for the past few years, Lagos politics has increasingly become tribalistic in nature, you hear this common narrative, that yorubas gave Igbo lands for businesses and now they are trying to do anyhow in Lagos.

That narrative has thrived because igbos don't fall under the Tinubu's political enchantment.
Mind you, igbos have been in Lagos even precolonial Nigeria.

Nollywood industry was formed in Lagos pre Tinubus Lagos, actors and actresses like nkew owoh, Clem ohameze, patience ozokwor, Genevieve nnaji, kanayo, and many of these legends all made their names in Lagos! All these in the 80s and 90s.

And now you hear people telling them that they left their homelands and came to TINUBU'S Lagos and are against him?

Suddenly one would think Tinubu is who made the entire Lagos state!
And these false narratives have been pushed repeatedly by his propaganda media houses which he owns such that the repeated lies now bear semblance.

Blueraydick am I lying?
It's no longer egregious to hear that Tinubu made Lagos! That a drug baron seized the entire political structure of the most influential state in Nigeria and now has it completely in his palms now means that there was no Lagos before he came! All the infrastructural developments that happened 100 years before Tinubus time mean nothing.

Is it today that people started emigrating to Lagos? Is this not because Lagos has been built to indeed be the economic capital of the country? With the international airport there and the deepest seaport there for the past 50 years.

But the man keeps using the phrase, Tinubus Lagos.
Suddenly going against one man equates to going against the entire tribe. Even when his kinsmen go against him, they are tagged bastards. Even awolowo didn't drive anti Igbo sentiments despites a section of the igbos strongly believing he betrayed them. He still created a conducive environment for all tribes to flourish in the west.

Why is Tinubu and his supporters making it seem like intertribal cohesion started with him? I really can't understand that.

Popizaino, as to your point about dayo, bro you can't say it's just online ranting. Online ranting is me just digging up 4 or 5 previously indicting posts which one could chuck up as just a spur of the moment, but I myself was absolutely shocked by the horrors of what I was seeing.

This was someone who was spouting such hatred against his fellow countrymen CONSISTENTLY FOR OVER 10 good years. ACROSS MULTIPLE ACCOUNTS! If they ban one account for his tribalistic warmongering, he goes and opens another one and continues from where he stopped.

Again, for 10 GOOD YEARS! Across multiple threads, monikers and locations. That is not just online hate, it's an exposure of an innate hatred habored in his mind towards a group of innocent people.

As much as I am not a fan of Tinubu and his political leanings , I cannot in good conscience accuse him of being a tribal bigot or pushing the narrative . He’s far from being one with what I’ve seen o.

One may accuse him of institutionalizing “agbero”/ area boys and other stuff , but I don’t see him as a bigot.

As regards Lagosians claiming to be real owner of Lagos and referring to Igbos as tenants who they gave land, well Lagosians have always been like that . In fact core Lagosians like Bode George still drag Tinubu for the same reason almost everyday . They tell other Yorubas too who migrated to Lagos the same thing , just that it doesn’t really sound well when it comes from a Yoruba to an Igbo person as against when it comes from a Yoruba to another Yoruba.

I think the fact that there’s social media now and people have access to some of the documentaries , videos and recordings of the civil war, the actors, the protagonists and antagonist has further escalated the tension between the tribal groups in Nigeria . An Igbo person would naturally be enraged seeing videos of malnourished children as a result of the war , only for him to be told that a Yoruba man advised the head of the Nigerian government to stop sending relief materials to the easterners because he was feeding the enemies ( soldiers ) and not the civilians caught in between the war.

Similarly Ahmadu Bello YouTube video comes to mind. Young people watching such videos will feel enraged that they’ve never been valued/have always been discriminated against from inception. Availability of such materials is what non-state actors and mischievous makers easily weaponize and misinform young people who had little or no knowledge of what exactly happened back then.

I'm just very glad that Obi's support have far surpassed what people thought it would be. They've seen how this man have SINGLEHANDEDLY gained national appeal.

When the movement started, people said Obi can't even win his state, then they said he can't win the east, now they're saying he can only win SE and SS.

Well, let's see but all the same I'm glad you've realized and I'm sure happy with the fact that Peter Obi is now a national phenomenon.

He's not perfect but he's the perfect person for this time. The perfect person would perhaps have been someone who hasn't ever tested Nigerian politics before but then we would have said that having no experience of leadership at all is a dangerous thing in this perilous times.

I wish you well bro.
