It depends on the reason for the strike. You can’t make a blanket statement that essential workers should never go on strike when government treats them like trash sometimes.

You can’t deny them that right that other workers have to go on strike and then still maltreat them just because they are essential workers. If they are so essential then treat accordingly. Being an essential worker should not be a punishment.

i am honestly not sure why anyone was bothered

in the past 6 months there have been an average of 2 system collapses per month

their strike is really just another day.

if your car breaks down twice a week and then your mechanic suddnely threatens to go on strike - what is the difference between that and any other day?

It was one of those strikes that finally pushed me out of the country. You get paid peanuts, be understaffed and overworked, and have little to no resources to work with and no response to your grievances YET when you go on strike the government will turn the people against you that you should never go on strike.

I remember one night during internship that there was no ventilator in the paediatric emergency and only 1 oxygen cylinder in the hospital which was placed in the adult emergency department. My colleague and i took turns to manually ventilate one sick infant until the next morning. Our forearms looked like Popeye's the next day.

I was surprised with the noise being made.

They can dismantle the equipments there if they like.

I really thank God for prepaid meters, and I wish more Nigerians would strive to get it.

If labor laws were strong in Nigeria the entire country would be on strike, worth more the public sector.

For here, employees of private companies like Starbucks/ Amazon are now embarking on strikes to protest poor work conditions, wages; some of them have even unionized.

I know exactly where you're coming from. My dad is a doctor, a stubbornly patriotic one who did not stay in the UK, did not return to the UK, and who left a job in the state clinic that would have kept us on easy street for life. When the wotowoto became too much he went to Saudi in the 90s.

My guys from uni were all docs. My sis is a doc. And all of them have japa. Even though Obj tried small with conmess.

But these naija engineering parastatals - they are mark register places.

I was round most of these nepa transmission stations in my first job. Mentally lazy people (to be fair it may have been the environment) most of the times when we came to install the relays that was the most action they saw in five years. And even then most of them would be dodging the work.

I can probably count the proactive guys we met in 20 stations on one hand.

Now government has used divide and rule to mess with yall. All these other useless unions dragging right. Johesu and Co. Like wtf?

Yeah. I get your point. That is why i said it depends on the specifics of each case. Blanket statement that essential works should never go on strike is what made the government ignore our grievances back then. They knew they could fall back on emotional blackmail.

You genuinely expect me to promoting our arch rival? Atiku will win NE except Borno and perhaps yobe.

We are after winning NW and larger percentage of NC. Obi is hopefully gonna help us by winning both SE and SS (PDP strongholds), while we lockdown SW for Tinubu 100%.

The trade disputes acts stipulates that essential workers must utilize every resolution mechanisms which includes the National Industrial Court before embarking on any strike.

Oasis has posted their reason for going on strike here, you can easily deduce the reason why they are on strike.

If I was the President, every single one of those guys that shut down the national grid will be cooling off in dss custody right now.

1) You said essential workers should not go on strike. The act which you mentioned didn’t say that. It only said they should explore all avenues BEFORE going on strike.
VERY BIG DIFFERENCE.

2) I don’t know and wasn’t addressing the particulars of this current strike action. I was only reacting to your generalisation that essential workers should not go on strike. It should depend on the situation not a blanket ban.

I commend LASG on their soon to be completed electric rail line.. Finally, Jakande’s vision, which was truncated by Buhari’s military government, is coming to fruition.

Then once the 4th mainland bridge is complete, it would be safe to say that the era of 3-4hr traffic jams in Lagos would be a thing of the past.

This is why I dey look that UK student visa Japa route with one corner eye. Most times when I sit in my quite time I do imagine what UK will look like in 2 to 3 years time when most people must have been through with their Masters and everyone will be job hunting.

Will the UK Labour market be ready to absorb many Nigerians who by then will be carrying a UK masters degree after spelling cars and other properties back here to facilitate the degree program?

What will be the fate of those who will be unfortunate to land jobs? ( Because definitely the competition will be rife between Nigerians, graduates of other African countries who went to the UK for the same purpose and UK citizens with British passports)

It's looking like the system was designed to make as much money for the UK economy and u are left to Ur own fate to sort things out.....Literally " GO HARD OR GO HOME"

As I dey I dey reason Scandinavian countries like Finland and co but I don't know much about their immigration paroles and moving with family and stuff. Then I don't know how receptive to a blackman in those places and how prosperous they are economically sha

Lol. The same way Assu is on strike now majorly because they want to dictate the terms of their engagement to their employees, they want autonomy and still want the FG to fund it. ASSU annual salary is around 246bn and they want the FG to double the salary for them taking their salary to about 490bn annually. That's half a trillion naira every year for ASUU alone. Let's even talk of recurrent expenditure of the Presidency with salaries and others benefits. For last 2021, their personnel cost was 1.7bn while ASUU gulps 249bn. Let's scrap salaries and wages for the Presidency (including aides and all other appointees), what we will save is 1.7bn

The same way NDDC staff are currently protesting because of personnel audit.

The same way NUEE shut down the national grid because they don't want to write promotional exams. They practically plunge the whole nation into darkness because they dont want to write exam before promotion.

In last year budget alone, recurrent expenditure (Salaries, wages, pension and gratuities) to MDAs alone is 3.7 trillion out of a 13 trillion budget.

The Nigeria Army personnel cost alone is over 400bn annually.

I dont think theres any cause of alarm. Nigerians are just the loudest on SM. The number of those going to school in the UK to japa might not even be up to 20k. I might be wrong though because I dont have any official data to that effect.

Using Canada as an example, last year those that successfully migrated to canada was around 9k+
