A lot of factors contributed to this.

The poor results infuriated the fans to remember the Glazers. If we had won the first two games with 4-0 each, the Glazers would have closed their wallet.

Veronique Rabiot also deserves special praise for putting her son’s wages near Ronaldo’s level. This action pissed off Murtough to enquire about Casemiro.

The planned #GlazersOut protest catalyzed by the poor results also got the board scampering around for good signings to appease the fans.

I am 100% sure there wouldn’t have been any protest had ETH won the first two games convincingly. United fans only ever remember the Glazers when the results don’t go well.
