In the context of this discussion, yes. we can and should ignore things that happened before XIB and KCM started their various careers as we are comparing their two. and if you're being nitpicky then I can still say yes the UCL the teams you're mentioning participated in is very different from the one we know today as it went through a huge revamp in 1993 which was actually when the name UEFA champions League became a thing.
