TheGoodJoe: Osimhen might have been playing 3D chess. He might have known Anguissa is less likely to play a splitting through ball through the middle than a Kvara or a Zielinski, so he moved to the right to make it easier. Maybe if it was Zielinski on the ball he would have stayed central because he knows Zielinski can thread the needle. 3 Likes |

Subzero047: Did that pass come to Osimhen immediately? If that was De Bruyne and Osimhen was in that position, he would have received it earlier. However, Osimhen improvised and made himself visible for the pass. Attacked the space and the pass came instinctively. That is what he should always do. 1 Like |

Osimehn pressing is something that makes him very valuable to the likes of Liverpool coach. He just needs to polish his finishing and positioning and the big teams will come 6 Likes |

drDoom3: It is so clear. Move and make it easy. Move - pass - move - pass. The pass did not come immediately. Wait and get trapped in a sandwich. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: Haaland took the sandwich option because he was confident in his physique to bulldoze through two defenders. Osimhen might not have been able to do the same (physically) |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 7:49pm On Aug 21, 2022 |
TheLoneCitizen: Totally two different scenarios. Haaland is breaking the line with pace and stregth. He knows De Bruyne has the ability to thread that pass. In this case, Haaland does not have room on the side, and that side is also occupied by another City player. No space wide for Haaland. In this case, there was space wide for Osimhen. He attacked it and made it easy to receive the pass. Good movement. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

TheGoodJoe: Which was the better option for Haaland? Between two defenders or outside? |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 7:51pm On Aug 21, 2022 |
drDoom3: Exactly. Also there is no room wide. Haaland going wide is not attacking a space. In Osimhen's case, He is attacking a space and making the pass easier. 1 Like |

TheLoneCitizen: There is no space out wide. So why would Haaland go there? There is also a Mancity player wide. So why go there? 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: TheGoodJoe: How can you say no space, when Haaland could have started a farm in that space outside the defender?
|
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 7:58pm On Aug 21, 2022 |
TheLoneCitizen: Are you sure you understand what a wide space is? That is like a winger's position. The four defenders of Newcastle are in position. Four. There are two Manchester City players in the wingers' positions. So please, which other space are you talking about? Unless you are talking of taking the channel between the defending spaces. That is a different topic. I would have said that but De Bruyne was tightly marked in the midfield. Trying to attack the channel will mean losing TIME and De Bruyne getting closed out. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheLoneCitizen(m): 8:01pm On Aug 21, 2022 |
TheGoodJoe: The difference between moving outside and between two defenders is simple. If Haaland moves diagonally, he will have to face Schar and Boatman 1on1. But if he goes vertical, the defender will have to tackle him from the side. All he needs to do is just step across the defender. Because Haaland chose the second option he was 1on1 with Pope. Because Osimhen chose the first option he scored from a difficult angle due to calamitous goalkeeping. One is smart work, the other is hard work. Kudos to the Golden boy. |
Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 8:06pm On Aug 21, 2022 |
TheLoneCitizen: If the defender I marked out was not in that position, Haaland should be attacking that space (if his teammate is not there in space. In this place, his teammate was there and the opposition defender was there. Now to attack that channel there, he needs room behind the defensive line to run through the channel. In this case, De Bruyne did not have time for the ball and this was an offensive routine to exploit Haaland's pace and power. which is something the City players are still getting use to.

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 8:09pm On Aug 21, 2022 |
TheLoneCitizen: Haaland is actually the hard work. That is because he is totally relying on his pace and power. Note that he used his power to stop the last attempt of the last man. In Osimhen's case, he nullified their defensive attempts by taking on the available space. I repeat, good movement. 3 Likes |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 8:20pm On Aug 21, 2022 |
TheLoneCitizen: I think I have explained enough. The defenders are not sticks or cones. If Haaland moves to the channel, the wide defender closes him. If Osimhen stays in the deep space, the defending sandwich closes in. In Haaland's case, he used his pace, knowing De Bruyne will thread that pass. In Osimhen's case, he attacked the free space wide, escaping a sandwich and made the passing easier. Two different scenarios. 4 Likes |

TheLoneCitizen: The screenshot of Haaland, De Bruyne released the pass immediately. Osimhen's case, Anguissa did not release the pass immediately. So how can you expect similar reactions? 2 Likes 1 Share |

Re: "The Super Eagles Thread: The Road To AFCON 2025 And 2026 World Cup by TheGoodJoe(m): 9:08pm On Aug 21, 2022 |
elunico: Yes. But, some are suggesting he should have held his position, expecting a pass, or made a slight diagonal run to stay onside, and expect the pass. This I disagree with because the longer he stayed in that position will mean he gets trapped by the defenders. |
