Military technology has gotten to the point where it will be extremely difficult for one country to easily defeat another.

Whatever war that will be fought henceforth will be a war of attrition. Countries will pay an astronomical cost in human lives.

The main issue is that the world is so interconnected that even a slight conflict between Russia and Britain would affect everyone in every continent.
