Check engine light are mostly caused by removal of catalyst… The car can function even better without catalyst… So why worry |

I already see a very ignorant comment above. It's because we are not technologically advanced yet, we can't grasp basic concepts. We should still be riding on donkeys. 1 Like |

I honestly don’t know why. I’m not a typical Nigerian though. Whenever I’m buying a tokunboh car these are the rules I follow and my car dealer that travels to Lagos to buy them knows them very well; - The car must be foreign used. I don’t buy Naija used cars. I’ve done that before and I saw “Shege”. Never again. -No check engine light must show on the dashboard when the car has been turned on and is running on idle. - The catalytic converter must be in place with no signs it’s been tampered with and no welded parts in that area of the silencer The funny thing is that this check engine light may not be indicating a very big thing. For example, few months ago my C350 had been “check engine light free” since I bought it 2 years ago. One morning I noticed that the engine started sputtering when trying to come on. The check engine light came on for the first time. I have a small blue tooth diagnosing tool which i plugged in and it showed that some of my spark plugs wer not working optimally. I drove straight to my mechanic’s garage and told him I thought my spark plugs needed replacement. He didn’t argue and when he checked, 3 of the plugs wer bad. We replaced all the spark plugs. As soon as he was done, I restarted my car, no problems and the check engine light didn’t come back on till date. |
