The ones i hate so much are the people who set canopies on the roads in front of their house because of one useless occasion they're doing, thereby hindering the movements of other people.

I have had issues with 'mad' Nigerians over this madness. you will see people put tire on the road in front of their house so that you will not park in front of their house like did you pay for the road too? Is the road your property?

And when you park there they will leak your tire. Please, do these idiots know that their property does not extend beyond the fence you paid for? You don't own the road. I hate these people with this entitlement mindset. One idiot haas actually leaked my tire because I parked on government road that happens to be in front of his property. You will see these demonic sons of baal disfigure the whole place by putting tires on roads in front of their house so someone does not park there.

This has happened to me in estates too. When you buy a house in a gated estate do you buy the road in front of your house with it? I seriously need an answer to this particular question because I have had troubles with people in gated estates who think the road in front of their house is theirs and no one can park on it?

The entrance around the premises is under his control.. Abeg I want to ask, on Saturday clean up are you the one that cleans up front of his house or him? If some is killed there does police question him or you? Think the answer thru first

Do you clean the roads for them? Don't you know that they paid for work to be done on that road? They have every right to stop you from parking in front of their houses.

You never see any thing....I've seen in some places in yenagoa and Port harcourt where people build on the roads making it impossible for others to drive into their houses.

you are talking as a visitor. now talk as the occupant, esp if there are parking constraints in the area. you come back home and want to park outside because you are going out again, but some stranger is in front of your house in the spot you normally use.

and as a uk guy you know exactly whats up

and then there is the case of abuse.

i went to my old hood and the entire public parking has been taken over by car dealers.
is there no parking in your property ? and i personally feel you should only be angry if someone has blocked the entrance into your house BUT i see from this conversation that you represent the average nigerian who feel that the road in front of their house belongs to them so i guess it is a prevalent mindset amongst nigerians . its an ignorant and terroristic and dictatorial mindset i have to tell you bro. its the truth but you can only understand this if you have lived in other countries

Utter nonsense. Try it outside Nigeria first, you won't see your car till you pay a hefty fine. Imagine coming home after a long day of work to see one stupid stranger's car parked in front of your house, or imagine trying to leave for work and one useless fool parked his bolekaja in front of your car. Say the truth. You go happy?

to add to what i wrote before, it is about nigerians abusing priviledges

i lived in a house in festac where the previous occupant put a large log pf wood on the setback in front of the house. i removed it then. today i was passing through and there was a large pile of gravel almost blocking the side gate.

a lot of nigerians will not differentiate domestic premises from commercial. a person will bring a trailer, a container, a tipper and just park it in any open space and abandon it there. and as i said before, we have the car dealers who will start with one car and before you know even you sukkot will not have anywhere to park your car.

and all these people dumping cars and trucks and containers are bringing problems. once your place is turned to car dealer storage, the car vandals start coming. those who will take a side mirror to complete a car they are selling.

at the barest minimum the containers or trailers or trucks are eyesores. at the worst they are avenues for different strangers to come around in guise of inspection etc.

oh i am sure the neighbourhood watch and all those nosy old ladies will not call the police on strange cars parked beside their driveways

there is a lot of nuance you are missing here

Nigerians have to provide their own security. nigerians have to be paranoid. Nigerians know that if anyone starts abusing what you consider to be basic rights it will be on them

can you imagine someone abandoning a used ice cream truck in front of your house? or a stolen car? or parking in front of your house at night to fk in the car?

Yes the road in front of every individual's house belongs to them. It is every house owner's responsibility to manage and maintain roads in front of their house. You have no right to park carelessly in front of people's home cos you don't reside there, they don't know you, you don't maintain it for them, if anything happens they will be held accountable.
Desist from parking carelessly in front of homes you don't reside or know anything about . If you wake up one morning and find 3 cars parked in front of your house for hours, I hope you will cheer the owners of the cars when they come to drive off and even put up a sign "Free parking" undecided

oh i am not even referring to government and their agbero palava. my own is private residences who think they own the road in front of their house . like the road in front of your house is part of the title deed and part of your property. am having lots of troubles with people with these kind of mindset

Na person dey clean that road, you don ever walked up to a random road Infront of person's house and clear the bushes growing there.
If someone is shot right there on the road Infront of a person's house, who will Nigerian Police arrest, is it not the owner of the property.

Man chill they have the right to tell you what to do there and what not to do there..Come Infront of the road leading to my house and piss there or park your rickety vehicle, I will let you know say no be government dey clean that place for me.

Even people will contribute money and work road finish, you come dey claim na government get road, telling them what to do on the road they used their hard earned money to do. Them never beat you for area before.

See, ehn for area, we work road with our money finish, rain come fall, wash off the nearby road, motorists decided to follow our street to connect to the main expressway...omoh we mount road block that day. Dey collect 100 naira...Na so one stubborn man o, e reach his turn he no gree give us money, we come tell him to park well, make other who ready pay, drive pass, he no gree, we come beat am up. He reversed go call Police. We no even run as he carry police dey come. Unknown to the man, a colonel in the NA dey live for that our street, the colonel even follow contribute money, we use fix the road.

We alerted the Colonel, he told the police to go back. He asked them who will fix the road again when motorists scatter it finish. The police turned back. Now we told the man to pay 1k to pass instead of the normal 100 naira

Roads belong to the state and are looked after by the local council. Exceptions are private driveways and private roads ( for example in an estate).

its just infuriating. that someone has the guts to walk up to your private property and let the air out of your tire when you are parked on a road they do not own. its one of the frustrating things about living in nigeria. its just so irritating. am getting to the point where i m starting to see all nigerians in their own little ways are dictatorial in nature which is good because my empathy is starting to fade off slowly. you cant be empathetic when living amongst demons lol.
almost everyone with a pinch of some sort of authority is dictatorial in nature in Nigeria. Just get closer or have an encounter. Nigeria is a den of all kind of illegality

For your mind now, the road at that spot belongs to government.
When the house owners were everywhere calling on government to fix the same road without response where were you?
Now that through community efforts, the road is now suitable for parking your car, you now remembered the road belong to govt.
Which govt exactly?

that's how things work here in Nigeria. You can't park anyhow Infront of my house and my house road without my permission. Even FG dey seek permission from streets before doing anything.
