Unfortunately the man is right. Despite the bad things he did; IBB transformed Abuja. Although it was the panic and fear of the Orkar coup that made him do it; else Abuja would have remained the vacation spot for the President. 2 Likes |

ElSudani: You just answered your own question. Yes it happened because Lagos was a former capital. Lagos was one of the few cities in Africa that had continued with exporting one or two items even after we had become a continent that depended on Europe. And so, the whites chose cities like Gold Coast, Lagos, S.A, Kenya as their HQ for colonising to further exploit exports through Capitalism. In Lagos, the whites developed roads that led to water banks(Lagos Island) for easy export of our underpriced raw materials and exports and they built several companies and banks to further exploit us. By the time we regained our freedom, Lagos had bred a lot of entrepreneurs (major capitalist) who were teeming to copy exactly what the whites were doing(capitalism). So no. Tinubu did not do anything. Whatever you see as progress in Lagos is simply a result of the forces of capitalism in an overpopulated state. 4 Likes 2 Shares |

Babysho: Abuja is the current capital, it should at least feature in the 10 largest economies in Africa, right? Your argument is lame, cities and economies don't build themselves, people do. 1 Like |

ElSudani: Oh I forgot I quoted you. I was trying to make an intro lol. In truth it has nothing to do with being the capital. I believe it was chosen as the capital in 1960 because of its level of development. My main point is of the effect of capitalism left by the whites in the colonies. Another point is that big changes takes time and therefore Tinubu's works in public office can only be recognised if his successors finish them so how is Tinubu already getting praises when it's not yet time? |

pquaver: Eko Atlantic is a glorified building site. VI is a mess with garbage in every gutter and agberos on every corner. The airports in Lagos are a disgrace by international standards, even by African standards they aren't very good. The light railway is not finished and functioning which makes Lagos the largest city in the world without an urban metro system. A true disgrace. Even in Nigeria other states use Lagos as a cautionary tale on how not to manage a city. |

Buckeyemedia1: Calm down this man. History is available. Before IBB, work was slow in Abuja. Muritala who Had the vision died before work started. Obasanjo, Shagari and Buhari worked on it ,but not extensively. For example Aguda House was built to be the seat of power after the late Justice Aguda who headed the panel set up by Muritala that recommend Abuja as the new Capital. It was in that house that Shagari was arrested on December 31st 1983 when he was overthrown. Whilst IBB accelerated construction of Abuja including Aso Rock, Federal Secretariat, etc and encouraged private sector construction like the Nicon Noga Hilton; he wasn't in a rush to move to Abuja. The Orkar Coup of 1991 made construction go into overdrive and he moved the Capital to Abuja in December 1991. With the Capital officially moved in 1991, construction went from over drive to steroid drive" 1 Like |

Nigerian politicians are still lacking when it comes to truthfulness and honesty, Babangida was and is still part of Nigeria's problems till date; a man who annulled the freest and fairest election in the history of Nigeria is the one you're celebrating. This'd give the new crop of politicians the impression that they can do evil and go away with it. |
