In Ontario its like 900k to 1.5m for the average house and you suppose drop 5% deposit for mortgage. Married people or common law guys are able to build wealth too due to combined income. You cant just relocate to the US after getting Candian citizenship. The US immigration process will treat you same way like someone from Africa. You have no competitive advantage. You need to find the job and follow the US immigration process for work permit.

Yankee too is not different. Western world is generally boring. The good thing about USA though is places like Texas, Georgia, South generally, have weather similar to Naija with short winter and cost of living are relatively low compare to New York, Massachusetts, Maryland etc. But you won't get too many kpekus like in Canada or up north US that has similar weather with Canada.

What I see is that people travel blind in Nigeria. Once one or two of their friends move to a particular country, it becomes the new shiny thing to do without any research. UK student visa is the trending thing now and people are running into a carefully set trap.

Someone was shouting this Canada few years ago and I asked him just the name of the capital of the country he intends to move to, he went blank. People will even tell you I prefer Canada to Germany , without having any experience of either.

Research, Read well before you migrate. Dont adopt other people's experience as your own. It is a recipe for frustration and depression.

Canada is a socialist country while US is a capitalist. Canada style of governance wants to reduce the gap between the rich and the poor, so when you are doing well in your career and earning more, they increase the Tax in order to stop u from creating gaps between yourself and the poor. Alberta cheaper? Then you have no idea of what you are talking. Alberta cost skyrocketed in early 2000 due to oil boom. When Timmy or Burger kings was paying minimum wage of $8 in Ont. Alberta was already paying $15, and nobody wanted to do job they would rather work on the oil field. My point is that the phenomenon led to inflation. Their economy could have been stagnant for a bit but it is still not cheap to live there. Manitoba is cheap just like New Brunswick but getting jobs in those places are not an easy fit. When we went to Nigeria for the law school, even professors of law and accomplished lawyers from the US, UK, Canada et al, had to do Bar 1 with us. They did and some are accomplished politicians and lawyers in Nigeria today.

I know 2 SANs who did their accreditation and bar exams, and are now doing Articling in Toronto. It’s normal.

Yes, doctors like lawyers and all do same too. You either want it enough to soldier through or you stay in your comfort zone. If you push through, the rewards are huge. I have many lawyer colleagues making over $130k and some are immigration panel members (judges) within 2-3 years. I know 2 very close Nigerian professors of law in Canadian universities , they came in as students, who make over $300k.

Canada is today’s heaven. Lazy and unfocused people will promote harsh relativism as the general experience. But it’s crap!

If you come to Canada legally and have your PR, you can settle in 1-2 years and do great. Of course, lawyers and doctors may face a slower transition, but it’s worth it.

Bankers, IT professionals, business analysts among others should get great jobs within 2-4 months, if properly guided, and earn between $70-120k. I have seen tens of close friends go through it and doing great!

As per loneliness, it’s demand and supply. More black/Naija women who are single crowd the Naija community populated by men who largely have families before leaving Nigeria. Yes, professional Naija men are almost always married few years after university. If they use potential husbands to play boyfriend koso, who they go blame? You do not have understanding of what you are writing about. Canadian citizenship gives you no leverage in the US, I repeat. You need to find the job and the sponsor, and be subjected to the same immigration rule like someone from Africa. People from Africa too need to find the job, get a sponsor and follow through the immigration rule.

Show me one advantage with proof a Canadian with citizenship has over someone from Africa as far as the US immigration is concerned. People get transferred from Chevron in Nigeria to the US as well. This cuts across. You only feel because US and Canadians are neighbours, the rule should be specially applied to the Canadian. Hell No!

Your Canadian citizenship only allows you to visit the US visa-free for maximum time of 6 months. If you spend a day more, it is a 10-year ban.

I know people who haven't used a single tablet in 10 years despite the harsh environment in Nigeria. I don't think the typical Nigerian hustler cares about all that.

Frustration sets in when the expectation (money) does not match the reality. For example[b], the average Nigerian is not used to paying taxes[/b]. Many circumvent electricity bill, etc. so they get really frustrated when they realize that 20-30% of the money they worked for goes to an healthcare system (they probably wouldn't use).

I believe an individual should try and attain a certain level of comfort before relocating on the basis of free or standard healthcare. What some people need is good money. These are people who haven't been to a hospital for any major treatment in 15 years. All they need is a good job, money, and more money.
