Good morning House... My car Headlights Look dull and I want them to appear almost-brand new. Should I take it to the mechanic village where I can find those specialized in washing it, OR to an Auto Spray painter workshop? Which of these can I achieve best results? |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by KelvinCoaster(m): 11:58am On Aug 29, 2022 |
WycliffeSMB:Don't let any body deceive you! There is no magic that can bring the headlight back to almost brand new. You can DIY...Make sure there are no debris of sand inside the headlight, then use a new razor blade to scrape out the outer dirty layers then get a pot spunch and do a thorough outward washing with water and detergent. That's it!!! |

KelvinCoaster:Razor? Won't that make it appear blurred? |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by KelvinCoaster(m): 4:38pm On Aug 29, 2022 |
WycliffeSMB:When there were no clippers, traditional barbers use 'Razor blades". I don't think their clients' scalp appear blurred. Use the traditional barber's skill. |

WycliffeSMB: There are professional that can make the headlights as clear as possible. If the headlights exterior is brown, any car painter that knows his onions can make it clear however if it's dull but in and out, there are ppl that can make it clear |

Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by kingreign(m): 9:49pm On Aug 29, 2022 |
KelvinCoaster:Most modern cars do NOT use glass for headlamp covers, they use clear plastic called Polycarbonate. Those clear lenses can easily be oxidized due to exposure to atmospheric elements and conditions and they can be repaired to look and perform justice new. 1 Like |

Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by frebor(m): 10:41am On Aug 30, 2022 |
Peterlove11: No ó, I just put that for illustration purpose. There are several ways people claim it can be done. There are kits sold at the car marts, different DIY methods too using household stuff (not razor blade or pot sponge sha) But I've only had it done by a car painter before. The basics is cleaning the lens with acetone, or wet sanding the surface then applying a sealant to prevent it from quickly oxidizing and turning brown again. I recently had it done, replaced the broken one and restored the other one.

KelvinCoaster: The front of Vehicle headlights are truly not made of glass. Just because it’s transparent does not mean it’s glass. You’re speaking of using razor blade to scrape glass? have you ever tried using your kitchen knife or even a razor to scrape your house windows or a coke bottle before? What did you achieve? Remember those are made of glass. If you’ve never seen a painter restore headlights then say so and don’t dispute the fact that they do it. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by KelvinCoaster(m): 12:16pm On Aug 30, 2022 |
Conner44:Glass or Plastic, which ever headlights are made of, can never be restored to its original state. I have seen these guys do it time and time again, it is just a temporary fix of which the shiny spray would still wear off with time. They do scrape off the worn out surface, then wash and spray. So, I am speaking from a point of understanding. May be you don't understand the difference between a temporary fix and complete restoration! |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 1:59pm On Aug 30, 2022 |
KelvinCoaster: Everybody knows you can’t use a usual painter to spray or scrape plastic to get headlights back to its original state. Especially not in Nigeria. I think the guy wants something like in this picture above us with the Camry. Assuming his case was that bad it’s a big refresh yes? |

CjEmmar:One or more shift solenoids in your transmission is bad requiring replacement. Conner44 in the same thread and page you posted gave someone DIY details to reach the solenoids and clean them. https://www.nairaland.com/996664/maintenance-tips-honda-cars/342#112199773 Cleaning will work when Pressure is low or inadequate but for Stuck-on (as in your case) you definitely have Solenoids that are no longer clutching/working. This is not a job for a Gear mechanic. But a rewire with experience in transmission can handle it as he should be able to test the Solenoids and determine the one that is bad as well as test the tokunbo ones to be used for replacement. New Solenoids are available though more expensive. Job can be done in an Alignment pit, so doesn't require bringing down entire gear box to avoid other damages in the cause of this repair. 1 Like |

Stubborn82: Though your diagnosis methods might be crude but likely you were able to isolate the fault. The ECU could be the fault in any PCM communication issues; but always the last to look at. You need to scan as you work along. Before and after replacing parts. Try reprogramming your own Brainbox before going for a replacement Brainbox that might come with other hidden issues since it's an un-tested tokunbo. |
