I guess it is an extension of the protectionist orientation of the current regime. It is likely to do more harm than good. It would have been better to create conditions that allow local models and talent to thrive and become globally competitive to the extent that it is a no-brainer to use Nigerian talent. The use of Nigerian music stars for campaigns has become a no-brainer not because the government banned the use of foreign music stars. The more we mindlessly close our economy and businesses to foreign exposure without creating ideal conditions for local content to develop, the worse things may get. What happens to the use of stock images and AI-generated voices? |

Timekeeper452: Have you ever advocated for compensation of slavery trade and colonisation which put us many centuries backward? In the first place the whole world were at equal level in technology and innovation but the slavery trade and colonisation scattered everything. Go and make little research about those who brought knowledge of Medicine, Astronomy, Mathematics which are the basis for the contemporary knowledge we have. The same people you want to defend stole everything, they were the most illiterates people on earth before they started stealing brains. Get that excuse first before crying like a baby over the issue of your oppressors. The mental inferiority in you is out of this planet 1 Like |

ehinmowo:Relax your emotional mind, the ban was to no nation, race, tribe in particular even our neighbours, Ghana and Cameroon aren't excluded, so I don't understand the complaints I am getting. We are trying to encourage local contents and it's a good way to start for a country that depends massively on other countries for goods and services. 1 Like |

It means REDUCE UNEMPLOYMENT, give this jobs that our people can do here to earn a living and reduce capital flights. In Kenya no body uses foreign faces for advertising. IT IS JST COMMON SENSICAL.YOU CAN ONLY GIVE FOREIGNERS HI TECH JOBS THAT YOU DONT HAVE THE TECHNICAL KNOW-HOW. E.G RAIL LINES,BRIDGES,REFINERIES ETC. One of the things that bedevil naija people ways to misearable life for decades is their insatiable crazy tastes for anything foreign.e.g dubai this dibai that, foreign toothpaste, foreign gnut oil, foreign milk, foreign chairs, foreign wife etc. |

Re: Nigeria Bans Foreign Models & Voice-Over Artists In Advertisements by Acidosis(m): 12:41pm On Aug 31, 2022 |
2Radii: Growing indigenously means providing incentives for indigenous products to thrive competitively or better than foreign goods, not banning foreigners (human faces and models) outrightly across industries. Learn the key difference (products and humans). Models are humans not commodities like rice or electronics. You wan go do healthcare, IT, and oil and gas work for Canada as a black man but you're against white faces acting as models in your country. Make it make sense na. How would you feel if Canada or any other country bans black faces in public and online ads?? Na you go first scream racism, you bl.oody racist! |

Re: Nigeria Bans Foreign Models & Voice-Over Artists In Advertisements by Connected1: 1:08pm On Aug 31, 2022 |
Cmanforall:That would be worse, think about what you are saying. We are all talking about worshipping foreign materials and here you are talking about making it expensive, when has it been cheaper? People still patronize foreign goods and services even though it's far more expensive, don't you know the more expensive an item becomes, the more valuable it becomes in the eye. That's not a valid point, the best alternative is what the government did, we should stick to our own contents, maybe then we can even promote our own cultures, it's a gradual process. |
Re: Nigeria Bans Foreign Models & Voice-Over Artists In Advertisements by Cmanforall: 1:35pm On Aug 31, 2022 |
Connected1:I would have continued raising valid points to contradict this Nigeria's ban of Foreign models. What we talking about here is most based on advertisement, and not the country of production. To your point, if I should ask you, so you think a local product with foreign models will sell more than a foreign product with a Nigerian models? To make the question clearer from your point - an example: You think a local brand of beer with Angelina Jolie as the model (more expensive) will sell more than Heineken with Ini Edo as the model? Promote culture to where? What is stopping the cultural promotion today? Is it the foreign models? I am trying to be objective here and please don't think any of those decisions affect me. I just want a better Nigeria for those in the country |
