Freebills12:well 800k is not too much to offer a prof but FG may also push for increments in tuition fee which could rose to 1.5m per session,I think that would stop the re occuring strikes. But note that a poor man may never get education again |

MikeofAfrica:This is what I have been looking for. We all know that it's not a bad idea for a prof after several years to earn 800k. But almost all sectors are underpaid, if they are increasing the salaries of professors, they should be increasing the salary of teachers that still earn peanut. Infact the minimum wage should be increased. The fact that someone is a professor does not mean that he should be earning more than other top officials in other fields, this is what they choose and that is the requirement. If it's the requirement for other fields, people will start enrolling to be a doctor and eventually become a professor. When people were making money in tech, large percentage of people started learning it. It's simple I'm not against what they want, but can the federal government do the same across all fields?. Cause I see no reason why a professor will be collecting 800k and a secondary school principal will be collecting 300k or less. Principals write exam to promote, lecturers write papers. For our friends that keep comparing Nigeria to US or UK, I'm very sure you have a friend or two that studied in the UK or US. How much was their school fees in a year. How much do you pay throughout your stay in school here in Nigeria? No doubt Nigeria needs help. But let us always be open minded |

baba4thegehs:to me,I think that would be the solution but at the same will be a time bomb waiting to explode in the nearest future, many poor people may never get education again which will also result to sharp increase in criminals. To be honest with you,I believe that ASUU understand that FG isn't making profits from education in Nigeria, despite the fact they claim they re underpaid, there re alot of wastage in the way they manage the grants coming from govt. If you re an insider you will understand this better. 1 Like |

Boyooosa:oga you and your profs are useless as far as Nigeria is concern! If you and your profs want to earn like politicians resign and join a political party let's see how far you can go. Nonsense, you forgot to mention that politicians earn that huge money for only 4 years. While profs keep earn until they hit 65 years and retire with benefits. |

4ward4:Tha6not true. In the US, the federal Gov't is not involved in Education to the extent of ownership and controlling any University. All Universities are either private or State owned and operated but not Federally owned. It will better to allow states to operate and control these schools. Controlling from Abuja is not working. |
Re: ASUU Strike: Committee Of VCs Recommend ₦800,000 For Profs, To Resolve Deadlock by ExudeLoveToAll: 4:35pm On Sep 06, 2022 |
Ayodeoba: Government owned Universities isn't a private Enterprise that is necessarily built to make profitt before any other thing. Raising the salary of Professors doesn't necessarily mean the tuition will rise astronomically to that postulated amount you quoted but surely tuition fees will rise. Many private Universities don't even charge as much as that. A typical example is the Rivers State University were Professors are paid more than a million naira is one of the few schools that has not go on strike for a very long time, tuition is still affordable. Our problem in this country is that those sectors that should earn more earn little (Education) while those that should recieve less (Political Office holders) end up depleting our national treasury with statutory legal bogus entitlement. The political will to adequately fund the Nation's education through different funding process isn't there, the corrupt system of the country hasn't allowed the right things to be done. |

MonsieurX: Rivers State University. I also guess the second Rivers State Institution Ignatius Ajuru University of Education should pay likewise since it's owned by same Government. |

It's not about offers. Will the government pay it? Their aim is to promote private universities they use looted money to build. |
