5 Million Yoruba People Signed Petition To Break Away From Nigeria, Self-determination Group Tells Buhari

The group had in the letter said that an overwhelming number of Yoruba people want out of the country because of their worsening and painful plight.

A group, the Yoruba Self-Determined Movement (YSDM), has urged President Muhammadu Buhari to react to a letter written by the group, stating that Yoruba people were set to secede from Nigeria peacefully.

A leader of the group, Banji Ayiloge disclosed this while referring to the letter jointly signed by him, Professor Banji Akintoye, Chief Sunday Igboho and Prof. Adeniran to the President.

According to Ayiloge, the “five million Yoruba who signed the petition to have Yoruba nation is a testimony to their desire to be free from internal colonialism”.

He then called on the government to act on the letter without further delay, The Independent reports.

Ayiloge, who is the vice chairman of the YSDM urged Buhari to read and respond to their demands.

The group had in the letter said that an overwhelming number of Yoruba people want out of the country because of their worsening and painful plight.

“The letter was written to serve notice to Nigeria that the Yoruba Nation is prepared to peacefully exit Nigeria,” Ayiloge said.

He explained that the letter was justified and appropriate under the law as a reaction to questions being asked by the group’s diplomatic team about the reaction of the Nigerian Government to Yoruba demands for a separate nation.

“YSDM was temperate in our letter to the President of Nigeria because we must demonstrate that Yoruba are peace-loving people.

“The Yoruba people can now wait for one more month to await the reaction of the President of Nigeria.

“While in some instances, silence could mean consent, we are prepared to consult our people for the next line of action and the momentum for a separate nation has built up to a crescendo among Yoruba people and there is no going back.

“The Yoruba Self-Determination Movement (YSDM) is an amalgamation of many Yoruba organizations around the world that fully subscribe to the notion of the Yoruba self-determination project.

“Thus, the decision of the next line of action rests with the Yoruba Council which is the highest policy-making organ of the organization. The council will determine the next line of action.

However, the group urged Yoruba people to be law-abiding in the face of constant provocations.

Truth is, we are just forcing ourselves to be one when in reality we know too well we are not one. It's better each region becomes a state on her own than staying in a forceful marriage.

But most especially the northerers will not allow that to happen because of selfish interest.

Is that a genuine threat to separate from Nigeria or a political movement, as usual, to coax the North for 2023?

1. Nigeria is convulsed by internal violence. Yorubas are no longer safe. Nigeria can no longer deliver positive political goods to our people.

2. General Buhari’s tyrannical regime has lost its legitimacy, and by extension, Nigeria has become illegitimate.

3. Nigeria enjoys no stability and predictability. No one is in charge. Our democracy has turned dictatorship. Nothing works in Nigeria. Everything is in disarray.

4. All the ethnic groups are tense, deeply conflicted, dangerous, and contested bitterly by warring factions. There’s unprecedented disharmonies between communities and among states.

5. Nigeria is no longer or willing to perform its fundamental jobs of a nation-state. Nigeria exhibits flawed and failed institutions. Only the institution of the executive functions. If legislatures exist at all, they are rubber stamp machines. The judiciary is an annex of Aso Rock. We can no longer rely on the court system for redress or remedy.

6. Corruption flourishes on an unusually destructive scale. There’s a vacuum of authority. Nigeria is a mere geographical expression.

7. Nigeria is cursed by the discovery of oil. Failure and collapse of Nigeria is man-made. Ethnicity, economics, and ideology all fuelled our decision to leave Nigeria.

There’s no shortage of groups that want Nigeria to split up. Far from the contrary opinion of the Fulanis, secession is a populist option, it’s not a collection of cranky lonesome idealists.

Nigeria is a phony country built on borrowed convenience. The looming secession will tear Nigeria to pieces. The pandemic, or an economic collapse, is driving the country to sauve qui peut secession – “let him save himself who can.”

Yorubas have no trust in General Buhari’s Nigeria. We don’t feel represented or belong in the Nigeria experiment. The only way to regain our socioecono- mic and political destiny is to leave Nigeria and chart a brand new country that will guarantee our pursuit of happiness, liberty, peace, progress, and prosperity

Under international law, Yorubas are qualified as “people” who have the right to self-determination, the ability to freely determine our political fate and form a representative government. Yoruba en masse really and truly want to secede, so legal arguments would be irrelevant.

The present arrangement, the present General Buhari’s regime are not conducive to our freedom and democracy. We must leave the jungle! If other nations broke up successfully, why would the Fulanis think Nigeria’s case is etched in stone.

Always blaming Northerners. The North or Muslim North is not the reason why this failed country exist today . The South - particularly Yoruba of Nigeria is the reason why “One Nigeria” exist for the exclusive benefit of the feudal North. In 1967 Yoruba proudly aligned with the North to fight Biafra’s secession.

Had Yoruba refused to join the North -driven war crusade against Biafra, the North would have thought twice before fighting Biafra.

Many Yorubas still boast today about how they dealt with Igbos and how their leader Awolowo single-handedly won the war by starving Ndigbo to death and eventual surrender.

So blame Yoruba and Awolowo for whatever Yoruba is suffering today. Yoruba mortgaged their freedom for slavery. So endure the enslavement until you have a messiah

I do tell people always to desist from supporting evil especially when the evil is been perpetrated against your assumed hater because it will definitely get to you.

Many people especially Yoruba Muslims here have cursed, abused and also keep insulting Mazi Nnamdi Kanu simply because he want Igbos out of Nigeria via Nigeria is unworkable and Buhari came and destroyed everything in Nigeria.

They mocked and rebelled a tribe a terrorist and some human beings are happy, jubilating and dancing on people's grief and tears for seeking for a better alternative to life.

They killed unharmed people and human beings are happy, dancing and calling for Nigerian army to keep killing them, simply because they want exactly what you're clamouring for today.

Many injustice melted against the Igbos and some Yoruba Muslims are very happy about that and I ask myself, how can hatred drive people to the point of a dead conscience.

That kagd or dsalvo(one person) and some of his fellow Yoruba Muslims have seen the handwriting on the wall, that Tinubu's ambition is hitting the wall everyday buh they would rather see everywhere burn than to see Peter Obi,an Igbo man wins because of their hatred towards the Igbos hence their lamentation that instead of Atiku to win,let everybody go their separate ways because according to them,it's injustice for a Northerner(Atiku)to replace another Northerner(Buhari) after eight years buh ask them if it's not also an injustice for a Muslim(Tinubu) to replace another Muslim(Buhari),their answer will be nope, that it's between South and North, then ask them again,if it's not also injustice for a South West to aspire for the top post since we have South East whom haven't tasted that or even South South whom have tasted just a little, they will tell you to go and collect it from PDP because according to them,Igbos or South South do not belong to APC buh Yorubas(another lies from the chief liars niii), forgotten that Yoruba men contested in the two major parties in 1999 and when you try to educate them about the meaning of justice, fairness and equity as they busy lamenting about it because of the fear of Atiku, they will resort to insults and abuses because once you hit them with undiluted truth, the next thing is insults, curses and abuses because tauts and untrained kids will always be fools anyways.

The truth is that Nigeria is unworkable buh people tend to believe that when Nigeria politics is shifting away from them and believe me,if Northerner should experience 1% of political negligence that Igbos have experienced and still experiencing till date, they will revolt immediately and as for the Yorubas, they're just starting because the breakfast will go round and when you guys talk about karma, here you have it..

Listen, every sane person suppose to know that Tinubu is their number one option and number two option is Oduduwa republic hence the reason they've started to manipulate the Northerners that fear separation into electing Tinubu or Nigeria will divide buh the truth of it is that in a free and fair election as it stands now,Peter Obi will win buh in a rig election,Atiku will win,so it's a win win for the South Easterners via that if Atiku wins and Yorubas activate their second option,it will benefit the Igbos because I think the Igbos seriously want out of Nigeria.

Finally, the South West political leaders knows how to get what they want buh the problem of the South Easterners are their political leaders, they are the worst of them all and sometimes,I wish they can be exchange with the political leaders from the South West because their populace there, fits with the political leaders from the South East while the populace in the South East, fits the political leaders from the South West....South West political leaders are a million times better than South East political leaders while the South East masses are also a million times better than South West masses especially in terms of firm and courageous decisions.( not been a coward to Northerners hence the reason I like Akedolue Ondo state governor)

Nigeria may or may not be together in January 2024 because the indices are there except an urgent steps are taken to resolve the issues if not,to your tent,oh Israel !!!!

I rest my case..Gracias!!!!
