If you have purchased the recently launched MTN 5G SIM or router, please share your experience, how much and where you bought it. Is it also true that the current 4G SIM cards are equally 5G enabled? lalasticlala honsule puskin dragnet 5 Likes 1 Share |

VVVOLTS:This is not true. MTN 5G is widely available in Abuja and Lagos as we speak. Did a few speed test using a Nokia x10 even in a location where MTN hasn't even deployed a 5G base station, yet got 496mbps. MTN is still currently in talks with Apple and Samsung as their devices are not getting the 5G signal. However, if you have a Nokia, Infinix, Tecno, Xiaomi, Oneplus or Oppo 5G device and in a 5G location, you will be getting the 5G signal on your device using a 4G sim. 27 Likes 2 Shares |

It's just name because for 5G to work, their antenna has to be almost everywhere (some cites they make them look like trees). Nigeria doesn't have that infrastructure. 3 Likes |

shezy14: 5G requires low antennas almost at every 100 meters from each other. In developes countries, they are found on street lights and artificial trees decorations. Who is going to install that all over Nigeria? May be they mean getting fast 5GHz internet and not 5G network (or it is marketing tactics to make you change your SIM and pay more). This is not too complicated to understand. For example during the lockdown, London installed it on their streets. It not like one tall antenna like we know but multiple low antennas. "No be one antenna, no be 2 antenna, no be 200 antenna". So they would install all those antenna so you and your friends could tweet faster? It's a small minority that would have 5G phones and I wonder how much that small group can generate for MTN. 16 Likes 2 Shares |

Re: Has Anyone Bought The MTN 5G SIM Or Router, Please Share Your Experience. by dustmalik(m): 3:36pm On Sep 07, 2022 |
faceland:There are various types of 5G deployment; Low band, Mid band and High band (also known as mmwave or millimetre wave). The one you are referring to being deployed on London street lights is the mmwave. The 5G deployed by MTN is the Mid band, NSA or Non-Standalone version, which is transmitted over 3.5GHz. This type of 5G relies on existing 4G core deployment. This is the type of 5G that is deployed in most parts of the world. By the way, mmwave is very expensive to deploy, hence only a few service providers use it, and it's the fastest 5G type. Even in the US, it's only deployed in a few locations compared to Mid band and Low band. 41 Likes 2 Shares |

faceland:This is absolute bollocks! Have you seen the speeds? And when they were installing these antennas, they should run it through you because you are what? When a 5G signal is available, a 5G enabled phone will pick the signal if the conditions of Band is met. 4G will likely never go above 200Mbits/sec anywhere in the world, and MTN 5G is known to go above 400-500Mbits which is a common speed for 5G around the world. Also, the latency is insane as I've seen 2ms. If you do not know the technicalities that is involved in things like these, it's better you do not spread misinformation! 27 Likes 4 Shares |

faceland:why are we too negative in this country!! "Fast 5Ghz internet" seriously? 5ghz speed is 4G plus not 5G. Many people uses 5G enabled devices in Nigeria and if there phones are showing 5G network with considerable fast speeds it's not a coincidence, it's MTN doing the needful. When 4G came to Nigeria who installed it? Is it you? MTN 5G is up and running and I'm sure other ISP will follow soon. Even my mom uses a 5G device if you don't have doesn't mean other people don't! 5 Likes |

ORIJIN201:that's what people don't know. Real life speed is different from what they tested in a controlled environment. In the real world many factors determines how fast a network is. 10 Likes 2 Shares |

faceland: Wrong. MTN 5G is sub 6GHz NSA 5G that is built on preexisting 4G network. What you're referring to is mmWave 5G. 17 Likes 2 Shares |
