techkay: The ideal time frame should have been 3 to 6 months. This is what I always advise! As F2, unable to work, or study, it doesn't make sense to say you will be jobless for 5 years. 5 years! It is like you are saying, "Hey, I will be sacrificing my career to go sit in the U.S with my husband for 5 years." That is why the consular asked you twice: "Do you want to stay in the U.S for three years? You want to stay in the U.S for 5 years." Which employer will wait for you for 5 years? 5 years! 1 year is reasonable, and 2 is acceptable in rare circumstances, but 5 years? You also said the purpose of going is to support him. You didn't specify why; even saying the kids miss him and I have missed the daily hug I get will arouse the empathy of the VO and consider your purpose for applying legitimate. Of course, it is legitimate, but in my opinion, you should have planned this well. Who is funding your trip? You said his GTA!!! No! Are you saying you do not have any funds saved from your own years of working? If he has been saving for 8 years, why would he sponsor you from his GTA? Where is that saving? Even if he is the one paying, why say his GTA? If he is paying flight from GTA, how much is that? If your own income is considerably lower than his, and you are going away for 5 years means no income for you, how would that stipend take care of 4 people? "You could have said my husband has a saving of 5 million naira before he left, and I will be using these funds for our flights and during our stay." You see, the VO was probing, which is why he/she wanted to know how much both of you earn. A key factor in Visa approval is funding. The U.S. has refused more people due to weak financial circumstances (or answers that portray applicants so) than any other reasons. You did not overcome that during the interview, and my opinion is that the VO was not convinced you'd return if you're approved. Nevertheless, it is not over. Make changes and go back...but give it time. This time, craft strong and emotional reasons for wanting to go support your busy husband and think about whether you really want to insist you want to leave your job for 5 years on a visa you are not eligible to work. But be specific on how long. Why that long? All of what you just read is opinion based on my assessment of Q&A in the transcript you shared. You don't have to take any of it seriously. All the best! 9 Likes 2 Shares |

Good Afternoon Everyone. Hope we're all doing good. I have a question I need help with. I was denied a F-1 visa last month at the Abuja Consulate. I have a US sponsor. Is it cool to have my sponsor transfer my COA to my account to show willingness to sponsor me? Anyone who did this for a second trial? Is it also a good response to "What has changed?" (I'll be sure to include other details like home ties to this question tho) I understand that it might not be the reason for detail, but I'll appreciate any responses please. cc : shannon70 |

deommanuel: So questions like this are hard to answer. While there are three things the applicant needs to demonstrate, they are ultimately subjective. (1) Bona fide student; (2) ability to pay; (3) present intent to return to Nigeria. Young people are assumed to have weak ties - therefore one and two need to strong. When it comes to funding - noting that the school required evidence of ability to pay is better than merely moving money around. What has changed usually needs to be that you did not adequately explain X. 2 Likes 1 Share |

Shannon70: Thank you for responding Shannon. That goes to say that having a US based sponsor isn't a red flag? How about one on h1b visa? I also don't understand what point you mean by X in your last sentence. |

Please can someone advise if I can get a new date of appointment for Lagos, my visa was denied July and I want to reapply. Is it sure am going to get new date? Because it's not 6months yet. Kindly help |
Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by Nobody: 6:54pm On Sep 07, 2022 |
deommanuel: I just use X as a generic comment - whatever it is you believe you did not explain. US based funds - from friends, family, regardless of their visa status - create a tie to the United States. That is something that needs to be finessed. 2 Likes 1 Share |

If you are on a temporary visa(student permit) as I am guessing, i will advise you to work on your home ties to Nigeria. Also, did i read in one of your posts that you are going to a college or so in US? At 24, you need to work on the reason why you are abandoning your program in Cyprus and go for another program in USA. It would had been much more easier if you are graduating in Cyprus and then go for an higher degree in US. Anyway, it's doable, just work on the loopholes and be optimistic. All the best! N.B. Nothing dey for Cyprus indeed. ghettonews: 2 Likes |

F2 visa na something. Thank you for your contribution. Why the VO asked why OP didn't apply together with her husband? Does it mean that OP might get the F2 visa had it been that she applied with her husband (F1)? fairheart: 1 Like |

Is it possible to apply for F1 and F2 together suppose there is fund to take care of families during their stay? And what is the maximum duration that accompany family members (wife and kids) can stay with a PHD student in USA? Thanks in advance for your time. Maxidooo1990: |

A friends visa was approved but the visa officer asked for an updated I-20 with new dates? Their start date is actually August 25th (classes start end of September) and they got the visa approved September 5th. What date is the I-20 supposed to be updated to? Has anyone experienced this? @shannon70 and others? Thank you! |

Re: General USA Student Visa Enquiries-part 17 by CreativeWeb(m): 9:14am On Sep 08, 2022 |
Gokoyer1401: Yes. It's always advisable to apply as a family at once for F1 and f2. The f2 visa is valid as long as f1. This means if you are given 5 years F1 visa, the f2 automatically is 5 years too. |

Thanks you for your contribution! I am just surprised at the number of F2 refusals these days. Btw, how much do you think can be sufficient as a SOA in case the primary applicant (F1) got a full funded position to support F2 applicants? CreativeWeb: |
