In a trending video seen by SaharaReporters, the governor was heard bragging he could handle a gun, despite not being an official of a security agency.

The Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello, has said he is ready to deal with anyone saying bad things about his administration in the state.
In a trending video seen by SaharaReporters, the governor was heard bragging he could handle a gun, despite not being an official of a security agency.
“If I hear any rumour or hear anybody murmuring, even if it’s in the person’s room and I said I want to see the person and you cannot provide him, then be prepared to be the person’s substitute,” Bello who contested the ruling All Progressives Congress presidential primary was heard saying.
“That’s why I’m saying it loud and clear for everyone to hear. Not just Ihima, not just about Ebira but the whole of Kogi. Because some of those people who are prepared to do evil, may be some of them are older than me.
“You cannot hold gun more than me. For that, everyone should receive and disseminate the message. Record and play it for them that I’m ready this time around.”
In December 2019, thugs said to be loyal to Bello and the ruling APC burnt opposition Peoples Democratic Party’s women leader, Salome Abuh, to death over some scuffle during the governorship election.
In April 2021, violent youths working for the Kogi governor descended on two middle-aged protesters who were pasting Buhari-Must-Go posters in Lokoja.
The APC youths flogged the two protesters, filmed them and brutalised them before they were later handed over to policemen attached to the Kogi State Government House.
Few days after, the state government in a statement supported the mobbing of the youths, saying they were from Benue State.
“The Kogi State Government wishes to commend the gallant and ever vigilant youths of the state for rising to the occasion to crush the ungodly campaign by some imported and sponsored youths who came to the State to campaign against President Muhammadu Buhari.
“The sponsored youths congregated at Benue State from where they moved to Kogi State and began to paint walls as well as display anti-Buhari posters that were printed in a South-South state,” the state Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo had said.
During the APC presidential primary in April, 2022, some of Bello’s supporters were arrested by the police after guns and ammunition were found on them.
Some of them were arrested in vehicles branded with the logo of the Kogi governor.

Yahaya Bello’s Inciting Video Is an Act Of Terrorism - PDP

The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) says it is alarmed by the disturbing video of Governor Yahaya Bello of Kogi State allegedly inciting his supporters, threatening to burn and unleash maximum violence on Nigerians during the 2023 general elections.
In the video, Governor Bello was reportedly heard issuing terrorism threats in which he said, “I will personally light a fierce fire in my hand whoever want it we shall use it to burn them, whoever survive it will thank God… Whoever is against us we will make him or her join my mother and lie with her (my mother) in grave.”

The PDP said this brazen threat by Governor Yahaya Bello raises apprehensions in the public space of the existence of a killer squad established to inflict violence on Nigerians ahead of the 2023 general elections just because they have rejected the corrupt, divisive and rudderless All Progressives Congress (APC), which failure is most manifest by Yahaya Bello’s abysmal performance in Kogi State.
In establishing its claims, PDP spokesman, Hon. Debo Ologunagba, explained that by FBI definition, terrorism is the “unlawful use of force or violence against persons or property to intimidate or coerce a government, the civilian population, or any segment thereof, in furtherance of political or social objectives”, hence, the reason Gov Bello’s statement can be classified as an act of terror.

“From his outburst, Nigerians now know the individuals who engineered the gruesome killing of many of our citizens including the PDP Woman Leader in Kogi State, Mrs. Salome Abu, who was burnt alive in her house in 2019.
“Also, Nigerians now have more insight into the disappearance of Hon. Adelabu Musa, the PDP Chairman in Okene Local Government Area for over three years now.
“Furthermore, the PDP recalls how the Bello-led Kogi State Government was accused of breeding and arming thugs as well as fake security operatives to harass and attack Nigerians in Kogi State during the 2019 general elections.
“This threat to violence and actual violence to Nigerians especially at this time have the capacity to cause a breach of public peace, truncate the 2023 electoral process and derail our democracy,” the PDP spokesman stated.
The PDP therefore called on President Muhammadu Buhari to immediately call Governor Yahaya Bello to order and place him and his supporters on security watch list as threat to democracy ahead of the 2023 general elections.
The opposition party also charged the Inspector General of Police to immediately commence a comprehensive investigation into the activities of Governor Bello with a view to nipping the ugly trend in the bud as well as prosecuting him at the end of his tenure as Governor of Kogi State.
PDP urged Nigerians, especially those in Kogi State not to be deterred by Yahaya Bello whose days in office are numbered but remain vigilant and continue to rally with the PDP in the determination to liberate the nation from the stranglehold of the APC and the likes of Yahaya Bello, come 2023.

That's the average attitude of a Nigerian govt esp from the middle belt and northern region. Just because they're privilege, they tend to think that they're above the law and power will remain with them for entenity...

This guy being the youngest governor in the country could have written his name in gold but he let power enter his head. Thank God he is not going to the senate and 2023 will most likely be the end of his political career.
