in other to avoid this long ASUU strikes that has consistently been a problem in Nigeria, it is to my opinion that University school fees should be increased upto 500k per semester. If you take a look at private universities and study why they are not usually on strike, you will notice that most of them have one thing I'm common, which is high tuition fees. Some pay as high as 2million per session, and this eliminates the chances of strikes and lecturers reporting of low salaries.

If you take a look at some African countries where Nigerians rush to study in other avoid strikes like Uganda where school fees is as high as 500k. Nigeria has a better academics in Africa but due to frequent strikes we travel out. But once we travel out we pay 10x more what we pay here just to study.

My opinion is that the federal government should increase school fees upto 400k on a minimum and maximum of 1milliom for medical students and law.

Then introduce students loans. This way the strikes will cease to exist.

What do you think

Education is not free.

You are very smart. The hard truth, the university fees will be increased to around that amount or even more in the future.

Uni edu will be expensive like Yanke. Only a few will be able to train dia kids in the UNI future.

You no go blame lectures, they also want to earn big salaries and not only them. Prices charged in the service sector will increase tremendously.

It's not a prediction but fact. Dollar will ex at 800-1k to $1 next year, no president can stop it.

it seems u don't want more than half of Nigerian to go to school. With the average income they pay to workers in Nigeria, how do u expect the parents of the student to afford the school fees. There are so many countries that offer free education also, how are those countries doing it. The likes of USA, Canada, UK that their school fees are expensive offer student loan and their salary structure is far better than ours. Even the students have a far better future ahead of them than over here. Imaging paying over 400k for the sub standard teaching we receive here when your parents salary isn't even up to 100k minus feeding, accomodations and other expenses that will come during the semester. The chances of even getting job when u finish school is very low again, so increasing school fees by over 1000% is suicide and killing the chances of many people that really wants to school.

This will become the reality if FG continues to be nonchallant in regards to education. It's even more sad that majority of students do not understand ASUU's course.

Quality education is not cheap.

If the universities must meet up to world standard, they need funding and they need to be self sufficient enough to fund themselves and own research facilities funded by thee universities and not the government.

For this to happen, people have to pay for quality education.

The status quo won't get us anywhere. Look how many graduates are dished out yearly, barely one third of those will get jobs, the rest will have to learn a skill or trade to survive, others will take to crime.

At the end, not everyone can go to higher institutions. Those who must go must be sure they are ready to study and graduate with good grades in order to be competitive in the labour market.

Technical skills, skill acquisition and business development and entrepreneurship should be encouraged after secondary school. If many graduates have known enough about entrepreneurship and that they'd still be job hunting years after graduating the university, they would have learned tailoring, make up, cake making, shoe making, mechanic, catering , soap making, pop work, carpentry, paint making etc rather than wasting years in the university only to graduate and start learning these skills to make a living.

With this ur idea.

Majority are going back to technical and informal education.

Graduates will be less, masters holders wont be much, PhD holders will be reduced.

I don't know about jobs if its gonna b substantial.

in the USA you always compare, an annual salary of a doctor is about 80,000 to 100,000$ (a year) and tuition costs about 20,000 to 50,0000$ dollar per year. So if you minus this from the parent salary how much do they have? Also know that housing is over 1000$ and they spend in dollars. So at the end education is still very expensive and not all Americans are educated.

Education shouldn't be free and cheap

Can we see your white paper to back up your prediction about the dollar?
You sound too naive about finance analysis yet you decides to show ignominious part of yourself!
You suggested that public university should be paying 400-500k right? Do you know how much accounting students are paying in state uni? Eksu as a case study pay atleast 220-250k as school fees in their first year! 70K as acceptance fees! Faculty due! Department due! Library fee! + Other miscellaneous that I can't remember now, at the end of it all, the package of all I've mentioned about is around 350-400k! Please in all honesty has that stopped the mismanagement at the ends of governing bodies? Next time, lay more emphasis on the management of public funds at the ends of government officials instead of showing the whole world your foolery. Selah

Technical and informal education is not bad, it will increase productivity of the nation at large.

We will be able to repair stuff and even produce our own thereby making importation minimal-a boost to our own currency.

We should be talking about free education and not higher fees. Some countries are doing it, why not us?

if technical and informal education too remains wack, it will lead to what formal one too has lead us to today. Solution is good funding. Take N190b from accountant general and give ASUU.

I never said it was bad. As a matte of fact. I thought i wrote this

Majority are going back to technical and informal education which is great.

Productivity will increase. Literacy is just knowing how to read and write.
We redefined it here. Some with secondary sch education can do that. And for higher education. Per time courses go yapa to boost knowledge.

My granpa b4 he died speaks english as if he's frm London. It was exposure to many things and interactions for him not formal education. Grandpops could create n fix many things when alive.

Over education.. Our problem. Too many masters holders, PhD, too many graduates with less survival skills.

Some undergraduate I asked recently about ASUU don't knw d reasons why the strike is on. Dey don't care. Dey just wanna attend university and graduate with first class and work in financial institutions and oil companies.

Education shouldn't be free and shouldn't be cheap. Everyone must not go to university. There are other courses a person can learn, cheaper and become successful. Last time I checked, you don't need a university degree in Nigeria to hold any political position
