I quite agree with you to the extent that if the govt didn’t charge the offenders before the requisite court, and consequently obtained a forfeiture order, then yesterday’s auction would amount to a nullity. Nothing short of daylight robbery.

It is a cardinal principle of law that the govt cannot be the accuser and the judge in its case.

Those who had their cars auctioned without a forfeiture order can approach the court and enforce their fundamental right.

Lagos state govt is not bigger than the law of the land.

There was a court order from the mobile court. So the auction was valid and remains valid .

I agree with this lawyer based on legality of the issue. However, Nigerians (both high and low) too should learn to obey the law and be orderly.

Let the government too fix the roads and properly signpost the roads...

Why seize someone's car and auction it because he disobeyed traffic?This is not right.If this law should be mete to everyone politicians and top government officials who drive in convoys should bbe affected because they disobey the law mostly.

You should quit this arrogant display of ignorance. Anyone caught violating traffic laws was taken to court for prosecution. It is not Lastma or police that pronounced judgement on the violators but the relevant court.

It's a law.
The law that states of you drive on one way, this is the consequence. The LASG proved beyond reasonable doubt that you were following one way, the court passed judgement. What else do you want

If you beat speed limits in the UK, and you're caught... They only send a letter to you with your fine to pay, and even attach a link to the proof of offence.

What is all these emotional sentiments people are playing at??

The laser focused dexterity exhibited by the Lagos State State Government in auctioning those cars at ridiculously give away prices - and also preventing the "original owners" from bidding to buy (back) their cars amplifies the skepticism out there that this whole activity was not done in good faith. If the sole purpose of auctioning the cars was to punish the violators, then the violators have been "sufficiently" punished because they were made to pay the fine - which is the buy back for a car they once bought in full.

So, if this is not a process tainted with malicious intent, why were they prevented from the buy back process? why take it personal? Or were the cars meant to reward some loyalists to the APC who were looking to get cars at ridiculously cheap prices? I can't understand.

The laws are mean to moderate the ferocity of "unguided" human actions and must never be stimulated by elements of crude barbarity!

It is barbaric to impound and auction a car for breaking traffic laws when the violators are available to serve jail terms, and or pay fines.

It is never done in the western world - but this is typical Nigeria, politicians drive and break traffic rules everyday and no one impounds their cars - it's different strokes for different folks - The revolution is coming, and ENDSARS will be a child's play!!!

If u notice, it is only the igbos that are against what a state government decided to do to law breakers through court. Do name checking and u will see their hatred for Tinubu not really the victims. This is Lagos state for heaven sake and that's their law. You will still tell ur host how to go about their law. Why not go to anambra and debate their laws on your ancestral land. True true, it operates like a revenue court. I have appeared before them once when they removed all the number plates of cars parked in from of my office. I went with a paddy of mine, a lawyer who knew the system as he worked with gov. He just told me to plead guilty, get the fine and pay, that challenging it will waste my time.
So I plead guilty, the magistrate nacked me 10k fine. I sent my driver to pay, I think it was an "alfa betta akkant".
Got my vehicle back.
I think this op is a lawyer and should challenge it in court if he feels lsgv is overstepping their boundaries.

Government should learn how to make traffic signs and see how citizens will obey the law.

Moreover, traffic offenses are the weakest offenses in mostbparts of the world. Confiscating cars and sending people to jail is draconian, honestly.
