New car owner here and I'm aware that there are several lessons to be learnt but it can reduce with your help.

Just one piece of advice per person that would save me a lot of trouble.

Thank you grin

The front seat is for your hommies not for any vagina. Don't let any girl in form of "Girlfriend" personalize the front seat.

Don't go blasting music all the time.

Sometimes, you need to listen to your engine as it's purring..
By so doing, you'll save a lot of cash on maintenance.

A friend spent 400k on repairs cos he's always blasting and not listening to the car.

Check you oil level every Monday and Thursday morning.

Use Mobil 1 full synthetic oil

Don't top your gear oil when low with anyhow oil. Use original Toyota type t-iv

I guest it is 4 cylinder engine. Be very careful Bro

Go to you tube to know how to check the gear oil level.

The engine cost is about 450k. Gear(13pin) is about 350k

Search 2az and 13pin on nairaland search box. You go know the truth

Don’t joke with your brakes and tyres. They are the things that can kill you if you don’t maintain them.

Don't remove your thermostat, avoid any mechanic that tells you to remove the thermostat. In fact, check if it's still present (if you bought a Nigerian used car)

Don't convert your fan(s) to manual. Avoid any mechanic that tells you to do that. If your car is in good condition, it won't overheat before the engine warms up and the fan(s) kick in.

Let me add two extra advices. Your engine may look very clean now but it will eventually get dirty, don't take it to car wash and ask them to wash the engine when it gets a little dirty. You may end up losing some irreplaceable sensors due to car wash pressure gun.

When you start your car in the morning, don't jump in and zoom off right away, wait a few seconds for oil to circulate and engine sound to quiet down before you move.

Congrats on your first ride.

Always be present at the car wash,if it happens you are the type that patronise them. Even though i prefer homemade washing most.

Always pay attention to your car,and treat her like a treasure.. It will in turn, treat you well.

On the flip side.. Dont have sex inside your car *winks*

Let me ask, is that car a tokunbo or a Nigerian used?
What’s the mileage and maintenance history?

Answer these questions before I give advice.

Not all mechanics are greedy and stupid or into pilferage. If you have trust issues, stay at home and fix your car by yourself.

Highly debatable points!
It’s appropriately normal to wash modern cars engine more so a toyota. All you just have to to is cover a few components and pressure wash and it’s totally safe! If in doubt, search YouTube of tons of engine detailing for cars.

As for the act of allowing engines to warm up before driving off, it’s obsolete, modern cars do not require all those long time. They have Heated Oxygen sensors, ECT sensors and others which rapidly brings the engine to optimal operating temperature in less than 2mins from start up. All you need to do is ensure ALL fluids are okay and at the right levels, tyres okay and then start the car and drive off gently not pushing the car hard and aggressively while the engine temperature rises to the optimum level.

if my temp stops at point 2 over 10 even after hrs of driving, what could be wrong. It used to get to mid gauge and stop there but not anymore. Camry 2003 v6

Either one or more of the following has been bypassed or deleted or disabled or faulty from your car.
ECT sensor, thermostat, radiator fan spinning constantly, ECM issues.

There is no highly debatable in this fact.
By letting your car warm up, instead of just driving it cold (especially in cold season, allows the engine's components to disperse oil evenly throughout every moving part. Without the proper warmup time, you can risk damaging your engine's pistons, which may warp or experience undue wear as a result of being driven cold. This is regardless of what you drive whether a 2001 or 2022 car as long as it's not an electric.
At least give it nothing less than 30 seconds of warm up, don't just jump in, start up and zoom off every morning. It happens alot with people that needs to rush to work every morning and they always end up with broken engines.

See I don't have time for arguments but I know for a fact that all my cars sound rough the first second I start the engine until it smoothen up after a few seconds. And I won't move until I hear that smooth silent sound that shows my engine is fine. Everybody can do it whichever way they like, I'll keep the method I grew up with as a kid watching my dad drive his old Mercedes. Probably one of the reasons he used that Benz for 10 years and the engine still sounded perfect until he sold it.
No need to argue with anyone about that cos there are lots of conflicting arguments about this online too.

Despite evidences and publications I posted you want to still refute these claims.
Your dad did that to his old Mercedes which had old carburetor engine.
You doing same is needless, in fact, it puts wear and tear to that engine. I’ve know for a fact that you like arguing blindly and endlessly over things you have limited knowledge of; I quit arguing on this matter.

Have a great day!

And you like endless nonsense talk. Are they your cars? I said I'll warm my cars for at least 20-30 Seconds before I move, you're telling me about something you read online. Just say okay and good luck. If I get wear and tear ( which I highly doubt) I'll go back to the market and buy two more cars if I like and guess what, I'll still warm them for 20 seconds everyday before work. My life, my rules.
If it's a problem for you, do yours the way you like. I'm not here to argue endlessly over a very debatable topic. Yeah, you used that word before.
I can also show you 10 urls that debunk your argument but I don't have time for that.

All your own resources never said you shouldn't idle your car, I read where they also clearly said you shouldn't idle more than 30 seconds but you're here opposing the point they made. Who doesn't know that leaving a car in idle for long causes wear and tear?
