Debts are a straight proof of bankability.

Ikeja Local Government alone is more bankable than your entire region put together.

This IGI they keep bandying up and down is both truth and fallacy. Yes LASG has been more aggressive with collection. But a lot of it also comes from the devaluation of the Naira and is due to no creative work by the LASG.

If the LASG 10years ago earned 5% WHT on a $1mln transaction of an International Oil Company (IOC) based in Lagos when e-rate was $/200, that would be N10mln. Today at $/700 that would be N35mln. 350% increase by doing nothing!!!

That's why those refuges keep trooping in and claim to be developing populating it so they can own it by force like Zik planned it for them. Awon ole.
Even a single lebanese or hausa who owns a business whose value is more than the whole okrika they sell in all Lagos markets doesn't boast, they just do their biz quietly and return home.
But some clowns have given up on their home and they're looking for a new colony.

South south cities have access to the sea, and have ports like Calabar and Port Harcourt, so why have they not made Lagos deserted with their proximity to the south east?

Lagos, the commercial hub of Nigeria, has been ranking as one of the worst places to live in the world for the nine straight years, a BusinessDay analysis shows.

Data from the 2019 Global Liveability Index published by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU), the world’s leader in global business intelligence, shows the city has been within the range of 137th-139th position out of a total of 140 cities in the world from year 2011-2019.

A 45-year-old resident and father of three, Mr.Fatai Lamide told PUNCH HealthWise that no building in the community has toilet facilities.

The Oyo State-born mechanic said, “We don’t have toilet in this area, including our compound. This canal that you see serves as toilet to all of us living in this area. We defecate inside nylon and throw it inside the canal.

“For people that don’t want to use nylon, they have a special bucket that they use after which they pour it inside the canal too.

Lawmaker scores Lagos Water Corporation low

A Lagos State lawmaker, Mr Saka Fafunmi, on Thursday expressed dissatisfaction at the performance of the state Water Corporation.

Fafunmi, a member of the Lagos State House of Assembly (LAHA), said in Ikeja that the corporation had not been able to justify statutory allocations to it.

The lawmaker, who represents Ifako-Ijaiye Constituency 1 at the assembly, spoke to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).

He said that the corporation had the capacity to generate much fund internally through water rates but had relied solely on government funding because of poor performance.

'' Anyone that is using water will be willing to pay for it; the corporation has not been giving us water.

"Is there any new community that Water Corporation has given water? People depend on boreholes; even government estates have industrial boreholes.

"Why do we keep pumping money into an agency that does not give us the desired results?'' he asked.

He noted that the Adiyan Waterworks was located at Ifako-Ijaiye, where many of the residents had resorted to digging boreholes as a means of getting water.

''A lot of people are falling sick because they don't drink clean water.

''In the same compound, where you have sewage, is where you have a borehole.

''There is no way you can manage the sewage that it will not leak and pollute the water; everyone drinking such is drinking contaminated water,'' he said.

The lawmaker urged the corporation to increase water reticulation and supply to residents.

Sane Lagosians will wonder why the vuvuzela noise about IGR, FDI, GDP, loans etc have not impacted governance like education for every child, mass transit etc. Things that Jakande, Mobolaji Johnson, Awolowo and even Marwa did without propaganda and with shinkinni money.

Realdeals:
1. The first governor to present a billion Naira state budget in Nigeria.

2. He phased out the shift system in Lagos schools in three months. He built functional classrooms to absorb those who only attend schools for three hours a day.

3. He opened up what is now known as the Lekki Corridor.

4. He built the biggest Housing estate by a state government at Abesan, along with five other estates.

5. He built LASU, LACOED, LASPOTECH and Technical schools to absorb the products of the free education policy.

6 He built General Hospitals and Health centers in all the five divisions of Lagos. He also upgraded General Hospital Ikeja to the Medical arm of LASU.

7. He created the Agric hub at Oko Oba. He also created similar hubs in Ikorodu, Epe and Badagry.

8. His government’s strict adherence to the party manifesto of Free Education, Free Health care, Rural integration and Housing for all, along with other UPN governors, created the largest pool of human resources in Nigeria.

9. He moved the Lagos State Government Secretariat from PWD to Alausa, which he built from scratch. He also lived in his personal house and drove his personal car throughout his tenure.

Some days ago, I was at a secondary school in Surulere (across the bridge from the Island) in Lagos for a friend's event where he is educating secondary students about the perils of peer pressure. I honestly wasn't expecting what I saw as the state of this secondary school.
It left me wondering if this was a school or a dump yard. Why in heaven's name are Nigerian leaders looking the other way while the young ones study in this sorry environment?

The attached pictures are what I saw. This is no secondary school. It's a hopeless shanty. I hope this gets to front page and attracts the necessary attention.

Interesting facts about Addis Ababa and Lagos light rail projects.

Addis Ababa / Lagos
Cost == $475Million / $1.2Billion
Length == 34km / 27km
Time to Complete == 4years / 7years (projected)
Year Awarded == 2011 / 2008 (Construction began 2010)
Contractor == China Railway Eng. Corp (CREC) /Chinese Civil Eng. Constr. Coy (CCECC)
Population == 5Million / 20Million

Ethiopia has managed to deliver Sub-Saharan Africa’s first modern light rail project which opened in the capital Addis Ababa on Sunday, and in the process, beat Lagos whose own rail project remains four years behind schedule.

Ethiopia’s rail project was delivered on time, despite its being longer than the Lagos – Badagry rail line currently under construction.

Addis Ababa’s two line 34-kilometre system was built by the China Railway Engineering Corporation (CREC) and cost $475m, 85 percent of which has been covered by China’s Exim bank. The Lagos Light Rail Project or Blue on Badagry Expressway, was to have 13 stations from Okokomaiko to Marina via Iddo for a total of 27 kilometres.

The contract was awarded to the Chinese Civil Engineering Construction Company (CCECC) at the cost of $1.2 billion in 2008, and was to be delivered in 2011. Survey work took one year between August 2009 and August 2010 while construction began July 2010.

The work is being implemented using the public and private partnership (PPP) model, whereby the state builds the infrastructure and the private sector provides the rolling stock and management. However, the project has not worked out according to the plan.
The 2011 deadline was missed, even though the State government got a loan to fund the project.

Becos the Federal government want it So and concentrated every thing in Lagos.....if any northern cities were to have access to the sea, by now Lagos would have been deserted!

But you have the sea in the South south, PH, calabar etc, why have you not done something with it - I will educate you, Lagos from the onset was open-handed, friendly and accommodating, while in your South, even prior and after independent you are full of hate, you don't give equal opportunities to people of other tribes, that is not so surprising regarding there are people you regard as OSu (slave/ non-worthy), how much more people of other tribes. There was also the killing of twins, while working for Un in the 80s, my dad escaped many times lynching, that was how dark and backward many tribes in the East are. I was in Bayelsa in 1999 with friends that we lived as brothers in Lagos, it was a burial rite for their grandma. I was amazed to learn that, I could not move freely, I could not bathe in their stream like them etc. Lagos placed priority on equal rights, sells land to non-indigenes, and allow businesses to thrive. if your grandfathers had done that, Calabar would remain the center of attraction till Abuja was decided... Lagos is not strategically placed, Lagos only gave what others could not give. Lagos is small and at the extreme, and more than half of it is covered by water, Lagos is also below sea level. But you know the truth, but the hate for Lagos will make you convince yourself that you have a form of defense as to why Lagos is what it is. I am Lagosian, lived most of my life in Lagos, and been around many other states before i decided to live in Naija, however, no other places were accommodating as such I could not live in those places, or find opportunities due to hostilities. While I was at Alausa, we had many non-indigenes in the parastatals, that is what Lagos is built to....Out of the FIR, Lagos do not get a %age proportionate of its contributed quota as others who offers less get....Lagos mostly depends on its IGR, hence why it has been developed from 600m to 45b between 1999 - 2022, the resultant effect is more companies will come in, more investment, and more opportunities for people around the country, even with the small land mass - hence infrastructural deficit will be imminent always unless there is a vision of such which the state is trying to expand and introduce other means of transportation. More people means more waste generation, as such we need effective waste management - 3Rs in the sustainability of the 5S in lean implementation. Until these other states open up for equity in all ramifications, the states would still be behind Lagos. I for one, want a country where everyone can move freely, live freely, walk freely, without fear of non-inclusivity. May God take us there, i cannot share my personal experiences in other places, it's like going to other country as a Nigerian to seek job.
