A bit off topic, but guys I'll be traveling to the UK soon. Wanna know which food items are banned or contraband over there... Meat especially I hear is contraband, is Pomo regarded as contraband too? |
Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by Viruses: 6:09pm On Sep 28, 2022 |
SaintOpzy:I came with almost all the foodstuffs I could get in the market including fried meat. Only my palm oil and vegetable oil were seized at the airport in Lagos. I didn't come with pomo. |

Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by Viruses: 6:39pm On Sep 28, 2022 |
SaintOpzy:There was no checkpoint from luggage pickup till I exited the airport but maybe some checks would have been done before sending them to pickup point. |

Hello guys. I realised that. Most students in the uk cant do side hustles like fiverr, upwork and freelancing or uber because its against the visa rule. Why is this so? And how can the visa guys tell that you are doing freelancing work?. 1 Like |

SaintOpzy: Nope! No checks on arrival unless you go declare you have dried fish by yourself. I personally came with EVERYTHING and none of my stuff was removed/returned including palm oil and Ijebu pomo. I'll just advise you pack all your dried fish inside one box cause that was the only box they checked meticulously at departure. My palm oil was packed in a special nylon for oil/honey and frozen for days before my trip. |

eniola1010:I thought students are entitled to 20hrs work per week durning school term? Or has it changed?. When you’ve got 20hrs to work and study, why would you want another side hustle ?. What time would you study with?. U sure say na school you come so?. U might as well apply for another category of visa so you can work 24hrs/ 365days without worries |

Re: Living In The Uk-life Of An Immigrant (part 2) by Amarathripple0: 8:47pm On Sep 28, 2022 |
eniola1010:Because according to them, freelance jobs will distract you from your studies and it cannot be monitored to ensure you are only utilising 20hours and not more hours. To be honest, I’m not sure they can really tell if you have a side hustle as these payments are not tied to your NI. However, better safe than sorry, as a quick google search will bring up your up work or Fiverr profile.. unless of course, you use an alias. |

eniola1010: ‘Why is this so?’ Because of the highlighted. Visa rule says 20hour/week Thru your tax n NI remittances. If you have a gig or someone willing to pay you by cash (like most Arabs), then you are covered. |

Yes you can use the revolut virtual card for payment. All you have to do is to add it on your Google or apple wallet and you’re good to go. Trex12: |

Viruses: Not permitted. Freelancing is classed as self-employment and self-employment is strictly prohibited while on student visa - https://www.gov.uk/student-visa . As to whether they can link it to you - don't you intend to receive the money into your account? Be aware that if you intend to 'launder' the money - that's entering into tax evasion territory. Enough said. 2 Likes |
