Feminism is the advocacy of equal rights as human beings and not conforming to gender stereotypes. Women are actually persecuted in nigeria for standing out or thinking for themselves. Because you're guys not women doesn't mean this thing doesn't exists. For example As a guy, you go out to get somethings you don't have to worry about getting raped or getting catcalled by people However women have to worry about that every single day. So because you're not aware or you don't know about the discrimination means you should classify feminism as trash That's a very insensitive thing to say |

Onucs:I don't believe in "God" Mr man It's a primitive thinking that man is the head and woman is the neck taken from a book that has no relevance to todays culture. And even if we were to refer to the primitive time, men were the head because they were risk takers for the clan and women take care of the children. It was a time of the most powerful would survive. We're in the information age, the smartest person survives now not the most physically capable person. So to say man was a head for a reason is nothing but a primitive thinking |

Davidf555: For saying these bolded words, you've identified why most Nigerians don't want to hear the word "feminist" because feminism and atheism tend to go hand in hand. Love them or hate them Nigerians are spiritual people and by spiritual I mean they believe in GOD. Hope you've got your answer. 2 Likes |

Re: Why Aren't The Women In Nigeria Advocating For Feminism? by Davidf555: 9:11pm On Sep 30, 2022 |
Onucs:Yes and yes They have what it takes to make crucial leadership And what leadership are we talking about? Their lives! Do you think men ought to dictate how a lady should live her life in the 21st century? |
Re: Why Aren't The Women In Nigeria Advocating For Feminism? by onumadu: 9:18pm On Sep 30, 2022 |
Davidf555: I concede the point that a feminist can be anyone... Next point about equal rights is that it is a human construct which religion simply "flow" with. if majority of humans today think that women are superior to men (never mind equality), religions will likely co-opt that. Spirituality is a different matter because it only recognizes TRUTHS. Personally I think that feminism is a form of religion, and any religion has the potentials to become dangerous. God and religion are not one and the same thing, though they often appear so. |

Re: Why Aren't The Women In Nigeria Advocating For Feminism? by Davidf555: 9:25pm On Sep 30, 2022 |
onumadu:A religion is practice of believing in something immortal. Feminism is again The equal treatment of sexes and being awarded the same equal rights. I believe God's not stupid to the point he'll say that there shouldn't be equality of human rights. Racism is acceptable in the bible if you're to mention about god's words why's racism not acceptable now and treating females as not equals acceptable? It's because we humans have evolved with a greater thinking capacity than the previous generations |
Re: Why Aren't The Women In Nigeria Advocating For Feminism? by onumadu: 9:33pm On Sep 30, 2022 |
Davidf555: No, feminism is NOT a belief in the EQUALITY of the sexes. As for your other choice of words in addressing GOD, clearly you hate or despise the idea of a GOD. lol It is well. What I would tell you is that humans can really do whatever they want on this earth ... BUT there are consequences. You will never see God debating man on these things. The "natural order of things" (AKA GOD'S LAWS) will simply whip you back in line each time you deviate. That is why there have been MANY extinct nations in the history of the world. I was shocked to learn about THOUSANDS of nations and languages that ceased to exist in the vicissitudes of human sojourning on this planet. Do the research yourself. You'd be shocked too. |

Re: Why Aren't The Women In Nigeria Advocating For Feminism? by onumadu: 9:41pm On Sep 30, 2022 |
BTW @OP, there is a difference between equality and equity. Equality assumes "power", while Equity assumes "justice", or "fairness", or "right-ness". God is a God of justice. I'd rather stick with that than dabble into the power play of inter-human relations, particularly FAMILY where procreation, and nurture of human souls happen. Talk of equality of the sexes has been used by malevolent forces to undermine the very standing of humans on this planet. It is deceptive and dangerous. |

Re: Why Aren't The Women In Nigeria Advocating For Feminism? by Davidf555: 9:43pm On Sep 30, 2022 |
onumadu:So do you mean you believe in equity rather than equality? |
Re: Why Aren't The Women In Nigeria Advocating For Feminism? by onumadu: 9:50pm On Sep 30, 2022 |
Davidf555: Absolutely. And all you need to do is look critically at the history of humans on this planet. All these years they've talked about equality, what did they produce instead? They've produced ANTI-human systems. We may be at the edge of human collective annihilation and all you need do is look at the people pulling the levers of power in the important parts of the world, and if you are honest, you can't miss the power-play between sexes deeply involved in the undercurrents. In power play, there is never justice. It is winner takes all. In Equity though, everybody wins. Feminism is part of the problem of power-play, and not part of the solution. |
Re: Why Aren't The Women In Nigeria Advocating For Feminism? by Davidf555: 9:54pm On Sep 30, 2022 |
onumadu:Equality means each individual or group of people is given the same resources or opportunities. Equity recognizes that each person has different circumstances and allocates the exact resources and opportunities needed to reach an equal outcome |
Re: Why Aren't The Women In Nigeria Advocating For Feminism? by Davidf555: 9:56pm On Sep 30, 2022 |
That's the pure goal of feminism: To reach equality You're more threatened by the statue of a powerful lady that you call it " anti-human" and anti nature and then stick with"God" as your source of inspiration. |

Idk ; My intention of this conversation was to engage with women about how they've been taking personal steps about breaking the gender stereotypes and barriers not talking to a guy who believe that would lead to the end of man kind. Sir, that's the most dumbest excuse I've ever heard for an anti-feminism talk. I can't change your mind I'm sure about that but I can put an end to the conversation I believe doesn't have any logical reasoning |
Re: Why Aren't The Women In Nigeria Advocating For Feminism? by onumadu: 10:00pm On Sep 30, 2022 |
Davidf555: Equality is a political (or power) process. Equity is a justice process. How do you define "resources" or "opportunities"? I may value farming, for example and you may value hunting. Equality means that we both get same farming or hunting ground. None of us would maximize our God-given potential in such scenario, and conflict inevitably arises when people feel that they are not maximizing their potential. That is why Equity (or justice ) is superior, because we get exactly what we are naturally predisposed to, and end up happy. A man and a woman can NEVER be naturally predisposed to same things. Prove me wrong on this last point. |
