Lurker4Long: Sometimes I honestly get the impression everybody down South who can wield a spanner is building an iteration of an MRAP. Not a hater but at what point does 'market saturation' come into play... In the 80s these were the main players; Over the years, the main industry players were TFM Defence & Security, Sandock Austral, OMC Engineering, Truckmakers, Gear Ratio (specialising in transmissions and powerpacks), Henred Fruehauf, UCDD, and Ermetek. Mergers, aquisitions, and disposals complicate the corporate history of modern South African AFV design and manufacture.https://www.engineeringnews.co.za/article/south-africas-armoured-vehicle-success-steeped-in-impressive-design-manufacture-history-2008-10-10/rep_id:4136 Today there are more players though Idk if there were mergers or employees going solo. Integrated Convoy Protection: The company is particularly renowned for its REVA Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) Vehicle that has been labelled the most impressive Armoured Personnel Carriers (APC) used in combat today. It has been exported to the Middle East & Asia.https://www.aadexpo.co.za/blog/article/top-african-combat-vehicles-in-the-spotlight-at-the-aad-expo Its not exhaustive ofc-there's no Milkor on the list who I thought were happy dominating the global AGL market til I saw this 4X4 MRAP they recently developed. 1 Like

Lurker4Long: Speaking of which the last few pages have crystallised an idea. You guys have have the software and hardware,ie,they've the actual experience and technical knowledge, like the CNCs and other hitech equipment ,the high quality steel and light weight alloy production to produce world beating platforms for air/sea and land. 5-axis machines rely on a tool that moves in five different directions — X, Y, and Z, as well as A and B, around which the tool rotates. Using a 5-axis CNC machine lets operators approach a part from all directions in a single operation, eliminating the need to manually reposition the workpiece between operations.https://www.fastradius.com/resources/3-axis-vs-5-axis-cnc-machining/#:~:text=5%2Daxis%20machines%20rely%20on,reposition%20the%20workpiece%20between%20operations. This will drill, cut, bore and tap everything from light metals like aluminium to 4140 steel for gun barrels, newly developed inconel to titanium and even super hard tungsten at very tight tolerances necessary for aerospace tech. Til around 05-08 5 axis CNCs were unofficially under global sanction to prevent the 3rd world getting access to the ability to produce our own missile parts. Inconels are a class of nickel-chrome-based super alloys characterized by high corrosion resistance, oxidation resistance, strength at high temperatures, and creep resistance. Inconel is able to withstand elevated temperatures and extremely corrosive environments due to two factors.https://markforged.com/resources/blog/inconel-vs-stainless-steel#:~:text=Inconels%20are%20a%20class%20of,environments%20due%20to%20two%20factors. Here's a small 5 axis CNC a work. https://youtu.be/gLnFYBC6MtA?list=PLiy-l63fXCAhMPhpgPQlZ1Y0smw5rq2hc Machining AR parts. https://youtu.be/_uSkj671urw Fyi,the larger 5 axis CNC machine starts at 500k $. I'll be my last shilling there are at least 6x more down south than the entire north of the Limpopo. “In the last 15 years we've gone over to CNC machining, and we now exceed 80 CNC machines – probably the largest number of CNC machines in one place in South Africa,” he states proudly. The factory features a number of processing and machining plants, as well as a testing laboratory.https://www.engineeringnews.co.za/article/machining-capabilities-at-free-state-factory-probably-the-largest-in-sa-2022-08-18 One of the largest CNC makers,Hurco NA,has a very successful Saffa subsidiary. Hurco has been active in South Africa since 2005 when a local representative introduced Hurco CNC machines to the country. In 2008, Hurco South Africa (Pty) Ltd was officially established as subsidiary of Hurco Europe Ltd to demonstrate a clear, long term commitment to support the growing number of machines and clients in the country......As of 2020, there are more than 200 Hurco machines installed at numerous sites throughout South Africa with many clients having the confidence to place repeat orders for additional machines.https://www.thmachinetools.co.za/Agencies/Hurco Anyway, this is for other forumers, not you; I'm sure you know all this better than I. With your huge potential you're now being ouflanked by upstart arms makers in Turkey and India. The former are selling choppers to Naij and the Phils' while you guys have tried for almost 2 decades to sell your Rooivalk! The latter are productionising new arty systems it seems weekly. They're also looking or coproduction and ToT-India was looking for an African partner. When that happens you do realise you're DONE!? I would be next to impossible to sell anything in these parts or anywhere else. If it were up to me I'd leverage all Saffa advantages plus the finances, invade Nairobi and/or Lagos set up factories and bang out our products. Imo,if you were more Afro centred you'd have had more market success with the Rooivalk-you'd have seen its overkill for our market;like a Rolls in a space of 2nd and 3rd hand Toyota Caldinas and Proboxes and redesigned a Rooivalk lite with the same low down time and ease of maintenance with Russian simplicity. Final thought look at Indonesia: Since 2012, DI has produced almost 60 aircraft and helicopters. The company has exported its products to South Korea, Senegal and Thailand. I think you can do better if you properly strategise and target your market-a win for you guys is a win for all of us! 3 Likes

2023 GENERAL ELECTIONS: IGP TRAINS PILOTS, AIRCRAFT MAINTENANCE OFFICERS FOR SEAMLESS AERIAL SURVEILLANCE - Holds Colloquy with Police Mobile Force Leadership, Squadron Commanders on Election Security Management As part of the build up towards ensuring concrete security arrangements for the nation, particularly as the 2023 General Elections approach, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Usman Alkali Baba, psc(+), NPM, fdc, has approved the training of the first batch of Bell 412EP B1.3 Type-Training Course for Police Airwing Aircraft Maintenance Engineers comprising seventeen (17) officers, whose training is expected to improve the technical expertise of the Aircraft Maintenance Unit of the Police Airwing and prevent operational mishaps during aerial surveillance operations. Similarly, the IGP has approved the training of more Pilots on Cessna Citation, the training and maintenance of a fully operational Unmanned Aerial Vehicle (UAV) squad, training of more Engineers on both Fixed Wing and Rotary Wing, as well as training for other auxiliary aviation staff to streamline operational inadequacies, improve human resourcefulness and ensure enhanced operational efficiency and cohesive operations. The trainings, which were run simultaneously, in partnership with foreign experts, came to an end on Friday 30th September, 2022, with presentation of certificates of participation to the trainees by the Inspector-General of Police at the FHQ, Abuja. In the same vein, the IGP has recently met with the leadership of the Police Mobile Force (PMF) and Squadron Commanders at the Force Headquarters, Abuja, where he appraised the internal security situation of the country and unraveled the possible ways of positioning the Nigeria Police Force for effective service delivery through strategic restructuring. The IGP noted that the PMF, under his leadership and command would be adequately restructured, equipped, with effective trainings, to align with its age-long tradition of basic unit concept and unit deployment. The IGP reiterated the importance of proper election security management for the upcoming 2023 General Elections. He further challenged the Squadron Commanders to provide adequate security in their respective Areas of Responsibility, to support the conventional police not only during the general elections, but in ensuring and reassuring members of the public of their safety before, during, and after the elections. The Inspector-General of Police further asserted that the present leadership of the Nigeria Police Force will continually embark on training and retraining of its officers to reposition the Police and invariably improve the general security of Nigeria even as the NPF attains its primacy in maintenance of law and order. kikuyu1:You need to forget all these silly stories being paraded by West Africans and far-right empty-headed politicians if you really want to see the world as it is. Even if France leaves those countries completely, nothing will change. Brookings, Carnegie and others had predicted several years ago on how many West African countries will become politically unstable. France, the US and co felt that they could stabilize the region with USAID, military assistance and other activities while gaining allies. Now these have to a large extent failed to stem the lack of progress and resource strain in the region. Due to colonial and slavery past as well as the rising ideological differences between the West and West Africa. Suspicion is rising and the West is starting to take blames. Relating with sub-Saharan Africa is becoming very tricky. Even China's economic involvement in central and west Africa started to generate conspiracy about colonization. Russia is becoming an interesting topic for some countries. But Russia does not have the economic strength of the West or China to invest in Africa. Basically they just prefer to gain the favor of autocratic leaders in Africa. That way, they don't have to keep a large footprint and risk falling out of favor. But little will change in terms of development. Truth is, only a region's people will determine socio-economic rise, and not a foreign country. 1 Like |

NTSA: Not when you have DSS swarming the whole place. That's the federal secretariat building, and the Nigerian President is one of Africa's most protected leaders. Nothing is impossible, but the possibility of a terror attack or a successful attack on the President is very minimal. 4 Likes |

NTSA: The high rise buildings are part of the Federal Secretariat complex, which is the hub of the Nigerian Federal Civil Service. It would be a double tragedy if any of those buildings becomes a threat to the Commander in Chief, especially with the proximity to the Presidential Villa, DSS Headquarters and essentially the whole Federal Government of Nigeria!! It's as impossible as a terrorist making an attempt on the US President along the National Mall. 1 Like |

Question for those in S.Africa and Kenya, I saw that they used telescopes in the two countries to observe the DART mission (https://www.nasa.gov/planetarydefense/dart/dart-news/). Check the video below. Does anyone know if the telescopes are government controlled? Does anyone know their location? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hg4DiOmKlVM |

Tinfoil:The telescope was built around January by NASA. It is operated by the University of Hawaii as part of their ATLAS network. BTW, I find it strange that your first question is "are the telescopes government controlled?". If it is American paranoia, then you are taking it to unnecessary levels. There are many science projects going on in the US by foreign universities. No one asks if they are government controlled. Meanwhile the US and SA have stable relationships and also SA's tertiary education and research is arguably the best in Africa. It was built somewhere called Sutherland, Northern Cape, SA. I don't think NASA built any telescope in Kenya. |

Faithful007: The government-controlled South African Astronomical Observatory (SAAO) also used it's own telescope, in addition to NASA's ATLAS. I presumed Tinfoil was asking about that, specifically. https://twitter.com/SAAO/status/1574688994201255936?cxt=HHwWgICqsYLTtdorAAAA

Faithful007: Silly stories!? Seriously? How many times has the French agenda on secret support for BH and the Sahelian jihadists been revealed here on this thread? Everyone from Eeben Barlow to Cameroonians have revealed how choppers are flying in arms and fighters. Sahelian officials have made IDENTICAL claims. Why did Mali expel the French ambassador? While you're at it find out how Jean-Fraude controls their ex colonies via the Pacte Coloniale. Things are NOT as simple as they appear. 1 Like |
