Actually scratch that - KCB has now moved to just below First Bank and Zenith Bank; Equity just below UBA. And Kenya banks just got started smiley smiley - by time they are done with DRC and then we hope Ethiopia see sense; South Africa will be very worried. I think we are done with Nigeria - just one or two more expansions - KCB and Equity will beat both Zenith and First bank smiley smiley smiley

While your Nigeria banks expand mindlessly burning money - Kenya expansion is well thought out. I pray Ethiopia desperate after their mindless war allows private banks and stop their marxist communism tendenacy......then Kenya banks will conquer Africa outside South Africa and Magreb - followed closely by Insurance Fintech, Telcoms, ICT.

Kenya banks are rising very fast. I think KCB joined top Africa100 - 10yrs ago - followed by Equity - they have climbed to top 20 in Africa - followed by 10 other kenya banks. 2-3 years from now - KCB and Equity will have overtaken all Nigerian banks - followed closely by 15 other Kenyan banks - who are all aggressively expanding.

How does that work? Sounds to me that apart from getting into messy downstream business of running filling stations - I dont see how this will work. So they will change their accounting systems but the board will remain from gov? And management will be from gov. The only way out is to sell at least 40 percent of shares to big oil company like Amarco or something that can provide strategic leadership...
How does Saudi Amarco work? Are they privatized?

Before Nigeria and South Africa wake up - Kenya banks will be running the 80M people DRC - with 95% unbanked population. GOLD MINE.

KCB Group has entered the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) through the acquisition of a majority stake in Trust Merchant Bank (TMB), becoming the second Kenyan lender to enter the populous market as top local banks step up the fight for new customers in the East African region.

KCB said it has entered a definitive agreement with shareholders of TMB with the transaction expected to close in the third quarter of 2022.
https://www.theeastafrican.co.ke/tea/business/kcb-acquires-dr-congo-bank-in-expansion-drive-3901282
“This will see KCB acquire 85 percent of the shares in TMB while the existing shareholders will continue to hold the balance for a period of not less than two years after which KCB will acquire their assets,” said KCB.

“KCB will pay a cash consideration for the shares determined based on the net asset value of TMB at the completion of the proposed transaction, and using a price to book multiple of 1.49.”

TMB is a public company limited by shares and has a strong offering in retail, corporate, and small and medium enterprises.

Once the acquisition of TMB is concluded, it will complement KCB’s regional footprint with an asset base of more than Ksh1.5 trillion ($12.6 billion).

Add Ethiopia that will soon be opening up as they will be desperate to rebuild after mindless civil-war

The deal now means KCB has a presence in eight countries including Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Rwanda, Burundi, South Sudan and DRC. It also runs a representative office in Ethiopia.

Imo it's better to fly beneath the Global Elites radar especially for now. The minute they feel you're getting too big for your boots invisible strings are pulled and such bad ishyt happens you think you're bewitched! All kinds of inexplicable currency devaluations, Anglo media hit pieces are printed, mysterious home grown secessionists and terrorists appear, etc, etc.

For now it's better if we escape GloboHomo notice: a decade from now they'll be, " when did Kenya get 4 banks in Africa's top ten? When did they invade French Africa? They've 40% of their mortgages!"
As it is said chini ya maji, underwater moves are best for keeping a low profile.

while your banks are migrating, we are colonising your banking sector, how many of our banks are in Kenya again? Now That's how to compete.

You're wasting your money buying dead small kenyan banks in a very competitive banking sector - while in places like DRC and Ethiopia it's a virgin land. Only a slowpoke will invest in some sectors in kenya - and hope to make profit. Kenya domestic economy is very competitive.

Exactly. That is why you need a partner who knows what they are doing. Not NNPC with 45 years loss making history. I am sure they turned profit due to the current oil crisis worlwide. When Oil return to 50 dollars a barrel...they will be back to making huge losses.

Apart from NNPC what else do Nigeria gov own - nothing much. In Nairobi stock exchange listed companies...Kenya gov has shareholding in 16 of them...including Safaricom, KCB, Kengen, KPLC, name it.

Unlike NNPC which started making profit in this oil crisis - kenya public investment always make profit - and kenya gov get dividends.

The increase in dividend profits for 2021/22 of 13.67 billion Kenyan Shillings over the target amount of 29.9 billion Kenyan Shillings that the exchequer had set for the period indicates stronger financial performance.
In the fiscal year ended June, the government earned US$365 million from public investments, boosting the National Treasury’s ability to finance development initiatives
The dividend profits are less than half of the 116.14 billion shillings that the government generated from its shareholdings in the 2019/20 fiscal year
The Treasury will receive a total payout of Sh19.4 billion for its 35 per cent stake in Safaricom

Kenya banks are competing against matresses and informal banking sector in places like DRC. Kenya banks learnt from kenya - how to bank the unbankable - and are deploying the same technology and marketting in places like DRC. The same medicine they use against big banks in kenya - they are using in sub-sahara. It's banking revolution they dont have the time to understand - how this bottom of pyramid works - and how it can be super-profitable - once you scale the numbers.

First what make them Africa biggest retailer? Of course it has oil wells and can make good money with little efforts. Upstream business they dont have to struggle because they own most of Nigeria oil literally. Downstream - they cant hack it.

2021 - KCB was no 20. This year it has overtaken Access and GT - and now just behind Zenith. Next year it will overtake Zenith. Then 2034 will become bigger than any Nigerian bank. Equity Bank - COOP - are following behind other 10 kenyan banks.
