It's a good start. I dont see one currency as being impediment. Transport system require urgent work. There a lot of hardwork required to remove tarrifs, change laws, open up borders, remove passports requirements for travel intra-africa...so many low hanging fruits...before we go for one currency, one language, one president..on united africa...in 200yrs from now.
theenchanter:
I still reiterate my stance over acfta that not until there's a common currency and interconnected transport system..... Acfta might not work. Only some paltry goods here and there will be traded.

the emboldened are things that needed to the sorted before rushing into the trade agreement.

I don't see it working sha.... But that's just my own opinion.

As for the currency, it's also very important because of the difference in exchange rate of African countries. If u sell ur tea to Ghana, what currency will u collect from Ghana? Cedis or KSh? Knowing fully well that there's exchange rate difference in the currencies.

Some countries will even cry over it, mark my word.

The former state-owned company, known for its relatively poor leadership and lack of profits for some 45 years, will now be independent of government and operate without state funding, with the new goal of delivering value to its shareholders.

Independent of government in its day to day running.
As it should have been, government have no business running enterprise, they are very poor in capitalism.

The Nigerian government is a shareholder.

Mkenya2019:
Apart from NNPC what else do Nigeria gov own - nothing much. In Nairobi stock exchange listed companies...Kenya gov has shareholding in 16 of them...including Safaricom, KCB, Kengen, KPLC, name it.

Unlike NNPC which started making profit in this oil crisis - kenya public investment always make profit - and kenya gov get dividends.

The increase in dividend profits for 2021/22 of 13.67 billion Kenyan Shillings over the target amount of 29.9 billion Kenyan Shillings that the exchequer had set for the period indicates stronger financial performance.
In the fiscal year ended June, the government earned US$365 million from public investments, boosting the National Treasury’s ability to finance development initiatives
The dividend profits are less than half of the 116.14 billion shillings that the government generated from its shareholdings in the 2019/20 fiscal year
The Treasury will receive a total payout of Sh19.4 billion for its 35 per cent stake in Safaricom

Ever heard of NLNG?

It’s controls 10% of the world liquified gas market.

When nigeria new gas train comes on board that number is bound to increase to around 16%.

The company will soon be bigger than Kenya itself.

Keep word is trying. It not making any dividend to Nigerian like you. It's not even investing. It's spending the profit to repair old pipelines, refineries and such.

It made 1.55 billion this year.

And it’s going to the government coffers

So Zenith and First Bank are not planning to move forward next year?

Don’t mind him.

There’s no possible way Kenya banking sector will ever catch up to nigeria.

We are not even in the same league.

I see either gtb or AccessBank acquiring KCB in the nearest future.

We trade in East Africa in our currencies. As long as trade is both ways - there will be demand for kSHS in Ghana - and Cedis in kenya.

If Nigeria gov owns it 100% - the board will still be 100% gov appointed. You cannot call that independent. Unless you sell at least 40-49 percent - just enough to bring in private sector - hopefully strategic partner who knows oil n gas - without losing control - you're wasting time. Next gov will fill up NNP board with relatives, girlfriends and boyfriends

With Naira collapsing against the dollar - maybe KCB will accept groundnuts for payment. I am expecting both Equity and KCB to soon eclispe all Nigerian banks

For starters KQ - The flying coffin.

NNPC is better than that loss making deadbeat of a venture, not to forget it s also Africa’s biggest retailer, nothing in your zoo can hack that. Just gulp down that ice cold fact gm down your throat.
It's true o. grin I've even forgotten about that one.
You see, the problem with the little Indians is that they are contented with the mess their country is. Unlike Nigerians and Ghanaians that you see here talking about the problems of their countries. The little Indians do not know their country is a terrible shithole.

KQ on it's deathbed remain the 2nd most successfully national airline in SSA - with long history of profitability = in a sector that is very brutal- unlike NNP who have 45yr long history of making losses - in a sector - of oil n gas - that is ver lucrative.

Lame excuse. If you dont like CEDIS you can always ask for dollars or gold. We have COMESA, EAC and others trading. You can change CEDIS to Kshs in airport of Ghana or Kenya as trade improves...in meantime we can take USD or gold. These are auxilary issues.

Cooked books - remitted Zero.Zero to federal gov of Nigeria.

This is a month ago..

The Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC) has failed to make remittances into the federation account for seven straight months in 2022.

This is despite a gross revenue of over N2.8 trillion from crude oil, and gas sales within the period.

This revelation was obtained from NNPC’s presentation to The Federation Accounts Allocation Committee (FAAC) for July 2022.

NNPC was expected to pay into the federation N1.23 trillion, which will then be distributed to the three tiers of government.
