Africa banks are expanding. Soon enough kenya banks will be in West Africa - and a Kenya trade can have his Cedis or dollar account deposited in Equty Bank branch of Accra - transferred same day to Kenya - and so will Ghana businessman with Access or UBA bank account in Nairobi. Single currency is never an issue. China does trillion dollars worth of trade in USD. Tarrifs, customs, and Logistic are urgent issues. Single currency we dont need it anytime soon. theenchanter: |

See what Almajiri school of beggars did to you. Urgent issue is for Buhari to remove all tarrifs and customs for Africa products just as Kenya does the same. And of course try to keep Naira fairly stable and freely exchanging. WB says if he does this 100M african will be lifted out of poverty with 200B dollars worth of trade. That is huge potential for intra-africa trade. Otherwise for now - we have to go to Europe or Asia or US - for things available in Africa. Lame excuse is one currency and other such nonsense. theenchanter: 1 Like |

What is wrong with cows crossing the road. Tell me exactly why that suspension bridge was built? To straighten the road? Why not just meander for a kilometer - along the shoreline - and save for some money. I was reading on KLM airline newspaper that there is only one ONCOLOGIST for children cancer in 60M people Tanzania. Why not save some money and go to Cuba - and get at least 100 children oncologists - one for every district. Kazikazi: 1 Like |

kikuyu1: Its the brutal honest truth. Our banks are expanding in your country, and they are seeing an increase in ROI. Nigerian banks probably controls like 3-4% of Kenya banking sector, and that number is going to increase not decrease, we’ve done this before and our banks are known for efficient M&A. Give it 10 years, 50-60% of Kenya banking sector will be in our hands. |

Example 1: Equity Group 2nd biggest in Kenya, Uganda, DRC, Rwanda - and also top 10 in Tanzania, South Sudan and with eye on Ethiopia. Equity Group is the largest bank in the region with assets of USD 12 billion. It is also the largest bank in terms of deposits, with a market capitalisation of USD 2 billion and a customer base of over 15 million. The group has 337 branches, 56,772 agents, 32,269 merchants, 697 ATMs and has widely adopted digital banking channels. The Banker's Top 1,000 World Banks 2021 ranked Equity Bank 761 in its global ranking, position 39 globally on return on assets, position 71 on return on capital, and position 149 on soundness (Capital Assets to Assets ratio). The Banker's Top 100 African Banks 2020 ranked the Bank 7th among the top 10 banks in Africa, 5th for strength, 9th for growth performance, 8th for return on risk and 6th for profitability and leverage category. In the same year, Moody's gave the Bank an overall rating of B2 with a negative outlook, identical to the Kenyan government's sovereign rating, due to the Bank's strong brand recognition, strong liquidity buffers and resilient funding profile, well-established national franchise, and strong adoption of digital and alternative distribution channels AfriqueDuZuid: 1 Like |

Stop this implusive urge to call everything largest in Africa. OANDO is unknown. In downstream business Nigeria is crap. You cannot beat even Kenya there. Kenya alone - There are over 1,800 service stations in Kenya operated by more than 70 registered oil marketing companies that are involved in the supply. Here is the distribution of petrol stations per county from the highest to the lowest; 1. Nairobi County - 324 2. Nakuru County- 230 3. Kiambu County - 208 4. Uasin Gishu - 181 5. Shaytun: I could ask if you've read about the expansion into the hugely unbanked Ethiopia and the DRC and if you comprehend the implications. While you screech of comparative ROI seen this: The report by Moody’s revealed that banks in Kenya’s cost-to-income ratios averaged 49 percent over the last four years, compared with 57 percent for Nigerian banks. Also, Kenya’s three largest rated banks have stronger cost-to-income ratios than their Nigerian counterparts, despite their higher retail overhead costs. [urlhttps://internationalfinance.com/kenyan-banks-outperform-nigerian-counterparts//url] Idk if you've heard of Moody's but they're def not keke operators! They're some of the most respected names in global finance. Here's a recent source more familiar to Naijjans: Among banks surveyed in Kenya, South Africa and Nigeria, Kenya’s Equity Bank, with a market capitalisation of $1.53 billion, had the highest ROE of 28.90 percent in H1 2022, while South Africa’s Capitec, with a market cap of $13.01 billion (222.19 billion ZAR), had the second-best ROE of 27 percent. [https://businessday.ng/energy/article/nigerian-banks-return-on-equity-lags-kenya-south-african-peers/] Even if you could understand these facts you'd behave like your Waffas on this thread; which is to say like a pigeon playing chess. So continue self servicing yourself to sleep fantasising about "Giant" banks dominating us. Luckily literate Kenyans here can absorb facts....
