Xiaomi 12T vs 12T Pro: SD8+ Gen 1 vs Dimensity 8100 by atheistandproud(m): 3:16pm On Oct 05, 2022 |
So today we are going to be pitting the newly released Xiaomi 12T vs Xiaomi 12T Pro. Both devices were announced yesterday by Xiaomi and should be available globally pretty soon. The Xiaomi T lineup is nice (and cost effective) alternative to the main flagship line up. In fact, given the struggles of the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, dare I say that the 12T line is a welcome addition. Both the Xiaomi 12T and the Xiaomi 12T Pro are flagship grade devices, although the Xiaomi 12T is more of a flagship killer than an actual flagship. These two phones are the successors to last year’s Xiaomi 11T and 11T Pro. Body Both devices are made of aluminum and are quite hefty. The 12T weighs 202g while the 12T Pro weighs 205g. Performance When it comes to raw performance then there is no contest. The 12T Pro with it’s Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 is well ahead of the 12T with its Dimensity 8100. The 12T Pro scores a very impressive 1,032,185 on Antutu while the 12T scores a more modest 780,204. This is not to say that the Dimensity 8100 is bad. Of course not! It is one of the best SoCs around right now, beating very illustrious names like Apple A13 Bionic, Exynos 2100 and Snapdragon 870. Software Both devices are powered by MIUI 13 which runs on Android 12. Display Both devices use essentially what is the same display, a 6.67″ AMOLED panel with a resolution of 2712 x 1220p. The display supports a refresh rate of 120Hz, a pixel density of 446ppi, 68 billion colours, HDR10+ and a max brightness of 1200nits. The displays are protected by Corning Gorilla glass 5. Camera This is second area where the 12T Pro completely dominates its lesser sibling and justifies its pro status. The 12T Pro houses a mammoth 200MP Samsung HP1 camera. It however, has two underwhelming cameras in support. These are an 8MP ultra-wide and a 2MP macro camera. In the video department, it is capable of recording 8K video at 24fps and 4K video at 60fps. The 12T on the other hand comes with a 108MP Samsung HM6 camera. Just like its more illustrious sibling, it also sports an 8MP ultra-wide and a 2MP macro camera, in support. It can do 4K video at 30fps and 1080p video at 60fps. Battery Both devices use a 5,000mAh battery and support Xiaomi’s proprietary 120W fast charge. Xiaomi claims that this phone can charge 100% in 19 minutes. When you consider the fact that SD8+ Gen 1 is built on TSMC N4 node, the 12T Pro should last for hours on a single charge. NB: For flagship level devices, these devices are missing certain features such as wireless charging, water resistance and a telephoto lens. Some persons may also complain about the lack of an SD card slot and a 3.5mm jack but one cannot have it all, especially considering the prices. This year Xiaomi decided to add OIS to sweeten the deal, so there’s that. Conclusion The 12T and 12T pro are very solid phones that can stand up to any modern flagship or flagship killer available in the market today. Both phones are very similar except for two key specs: SoC and cameras. If it is the absolute best you are looking for, then the 12T Pro should do you well as long as you have slightly deeper pockets. As for those who are on a budget, the 12T with it’s Dimensity 8100 and Samsung HM6 cameras should more than suffice. 2 Likes

Although nice phones, I don't fancy flat phones, I'm more tilted to curved displays as they appeal more to me 1 Like |
