Having travel history is advantageous but does not necessarily prove home ties.
The consulate is NOW aware Nigerians travel to various countries for the purpose of an intended US travel in future.
That’s why a Ghana stamp a few years back became a problem instead of a solution.
Travel can help you paint a picture of financial stability and capability but you also stand a greater chance of financial stability than what you have in Nigeria if you earn a wage in the US.

You people are here wasting time on getting a visa that is unachievable, while millions of Latinos are pouring across the wide open US southern border and they are flying them all over the country lodging them in hotels .This oyinbos are useless racists when it comes to dark skin people, giving a 2024 date for a visa to country with wide open border.

Can I respond here.
The consulate is always not disposed to approving a non immigrant visa for an applicant with a pending immigrant application.
The reasons are it negates a condition of the non immigrant visa (are you certain you are coming back to Nigeria); you can squash the non immigrant visa while in the US and hide behind the pending immigrant application, if the non immigrant application is denied, you will already be on US soil and can use an immigration attorney to plead your case, the paper work for USCiS increases.
So they are more disposed to let the immigrant application run through and you use the final decision, which most time is an approval.

Concerning the loss of a parent (my condolences), I don’t know how or if there is a channel to request for a visit visa on compassionate ground. The expedited appointment option may be used, but I think it has its options stated therein.
Glad you have done this already.

Funerals in the US are done differently than Nigeria. It will cost a whole lot more to hold off the funeral until you guys get to travel, and the VOs have a mindset different from ours which plays a part in their decision. Funerals expenses will be included in your financial assessments.

You may write the consulate and state your grounds including the death certificate and funeral plans or situations maybe you’d get a feedback, but I am not certain about this.

There are no question format or framework for interviews. The immigration law requires consular officers to question you based solely on the information you provide. So your application or case is the basis for questions. That’s why people are always told to state the facts as is so you can respond naturally.

The backlog can’t be helped. It’s not only at the embassy in Nigeria. A couple of other countries are experiencing these backlogs too.

I don’t know about going to other countries to apply. Your constraints with time may not afford you this luxury, and the VO knows this too.
After my mum who was our petitioner passed away, our immigrant petition is meant to be automatically revoked (so it’s already revoked I guess), though we plan on reactivating it with “humanitarian reinstatement” which is a route used when a petitioner passes on. And we don’t plan on ever mentioning about our immigrant petition during the interview unless we’re asked.
I’m certain I’m coming back because I have just a year left in school, would’ve been finishing my finals early next year if not for strike, so I can’t abandon all my years in school.
Yes we just got the death certificate and memo for the funeral plans the day before yesterday and immediately applied for an emergency appointment, we’re keeping our fingers crossed for a new date.
Yes I know about the expensive funeral costs, my Dad was buried in the US few years ago too.
my aunty paid the funeral home $4000 to keep my mum for 3 months, my aunt who is our sponsor is also wealthy with a good job.

I really thank you for the good choice of words you used in your reply tho, I asked a question yesterday and someone replied that my dad was buried in the US without our attendance and “heaven did not fall” which made me feel very terrible that I deleted the post
Thanks again for this lengthy and insightful reply

Get an immigration attorney who is very versed in the practice in the US to handle USCIS and your petition. Preferably a Jewish, Iranian or Asian descent attorney. They work wonders. Don’t use a white or black attorney.
At your interview, they will have the petition info on their screen. You can’t avoid talking about it.
People have different ethics and morals on NL and it’s so sad the bullies don’t change or get curbed. Some people are just wild and ignorant here with their comments.

Please stop this narrative.
There are tons of Nigerians and other African nationals going to Brazil and walking to Mexico to jump the border also every day. Look in the mirror.
So stop the BS that it’s only Latinos crossing the border.
It’s better to get to the US through its borders legally as people are trying to do here on this thread.

Alright thanks
I just know If unfortunately the visitor visa route doesn’t work out and we use the immigrant route, doubt we’d make it in time for the funeral, I read the humanitarian reinstatements take about a year or so

I read it, but she went for masters originally but is now legally working there. I thought VOs don't like that, as in you go as a student but instead of coming back you stay back and work, whether you're legal or not...that's why they're trained to see every applicant as an intending immigrant

The whole essence of the student pathway is for students to go to school and get jobs via H1B most especially stem student opportunities. So far as she’s there legally then she has no problems. Most immigrants in the USA now went either via the lottery or education route. You’ll be surprised the visa officer himself may be an immigrant who naturalised to become a citizen. Visa officers do not frown on legal immigrants or students who now live in the USA legally. Most of my friends who are citizens today went via the student route many years ago and it never debarred their families from applying to visit them or filing for their parents and their parents in turn for their siblings.

No its not revoked and dont you try to revoke it. It is still running and you can still be approved all you need is an immgration lawyer who will follow it through. I know someone whose mum filed for her and the mum is late died like 5yrs ago, her application is still on, recently uscis requested for DNA good thing she have the eldest sibling who orginally was the one who filed for their mum and their mum in return had filed for 2 them who are already living in usa, then herself whose application is still in process. so pls dont revoke it

Great news.
Get across to the team in the US (your family) and get all the info you could be asked concerning your mums medical case history and also, all about the funeral plans.
At the interview try and appeal to the VOs emotions as subtle as possible on why you will not want to miss your parents’ funeral, a second time. You have to pay your last respect and will also be doing a grave side visit to your dads graveside.
Be prepared to make reference or talk about the application IF AND ONLY when asked by the VO

the petition won’t be revoked if the applicant was already in the us at the time of the death of the petitioner, if the applicant wasn’t in us the only route Is humanitarian reinstatement. Thank you all the same, everything would work out fine hopefully
