Biden promises Ukraine advanced air defense systems

US President Joe Biden promised to provide Ukraine with advanced air defense systems, the White House said in a statement.

While speaking with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, Biden "pledged to continue providing Ukraine with the support needed to defend itself, including advanced air defense systems."

The statement follows a series of Russian strikes on a number of Ukrainian cities including Kyiv. Russian President Vladimir Putin has threatened more "severe" attacks in Ukraine.

The White House statement said that Biden "conveyed his condolences to the loved ones of those killed and injured in these senseless attacks."

Kyiv says that Russia had fired more than 80 missiles on cities across Ukraine, killing at least 14 people.

Biden also "underscored his ongoing engagement with allies and partners to continue imposing costs on Russia (and) holding Russia accountable for its war crimes and atrocities."

Germany to send Ukraine air defense systems

German Defense Minister Christine Lambrecht said Germany will deliver the first of four "IRIS-T SLM" air defense system within days.

"The renewed missile fire on Kyiv and the many other cities show how important it is to supply Ukraine with air defense systems quickly," Lambrecht said in a statement.

"Russia's attacks with missiles and drones terrorize the civilian population," the statement added.

German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock said Monday that Germany would do "everything it can" to help quickly bolster Ukraine's air defenses.

"It is despicable and unjustifiable for Putin to bombard large cities and civilians with missiles," Baerbock wrote on Twitter.

In June, German Chancellor Olaf Scholz had promised to provide air defense systems to Ukraine.

The IRIS-T SLM can defend from approaching missiles at an altitude of up to 20 kilometers and a distance up to 40 kilometers.

Missile defenses are not offensive weapons and pose no threat to Russia, but this attitude of Putin flooding missiles into Ukrainian cities like Hamas of Palestine simply has to end.

A single US Patriot or German Iris-T or Norwegian NASAMS can protect an area as large as a city. 83 missiles were launched by Russia today, only 43 were intercepted by Ukraine.

What many don't realise is that, current weapons given to Ukriane are "NATO lite". The only serious thing NATO has given Ukraine is the HIMARS with GMLS missiles. If Russia continue to tow the path of madness, the US can give Ukraine an entire stockpile of ATACMS missiles that can reach deep into Russia, Tomahawk cruise missiles. F16 fighter jets, Abrams Tanks. In an extreme situation of Putin using Nuclear weapons, US can turn Ukraine into a nuclear powered nation in a matter of weeks.
