Wow! DJ Cuppy has great taste! And the play on words was beautiful (although some might not understand it).

She wrote, "Good Morning Sir. Please play I Love My Country by Tunji Oyelana".

Do you understand what she wrote? grin

naptu2:
Mo gba safiricate grin

I'm updating the list, now that I've found Tyna Onwudiwe's second song. As you can guess, the most difficult part is in figuring the year that Tunji Oyelana's songs were released. It's like I've heard them my whole life.

I'll post the list shortly

naptu2:
Meditating on Tunji Oyelana all morning. I had to download it. Great wisdom and great music combined. What a throwback!

This is what they call music. The name of this thing is music.

1) Tunji Oyelana - Alaru T' Onje Buredi

2) Tunji Oyelana - Good Morning Sir

3) Tunji Oyelana - Eniyan Bi Aparo (1976)

4) Tunji Oyelana - Ibi Aye

5) Tunji Oyelana - Wa Jiya

6) Tunji Oyelana - Guguru Pere, Epa Perere

naptu2:
O MY GOD!

To be honest with you, I thoroughly enjoyed the journey but, thinking about the meaning of this song can make you weep.

It's the human condition. The problems of the world (problem no the finish) and it almost seems like he predicted the problems of Nigeria. The problem is the people and the traits in the people.

Please listen to the lyrics.

Tunji Oyelana - Mo Lo Soko (1976).

naptu2:
I wonder if I should call Uncle Tunji Oyelana to mark the end of the day for us.

naptu2:
I mentioned Tunji Oyelana earlier, so I need to clarify.

NO

There's no "I Love My Country" or "Sura Di Tailor" in the list.

naptu2:
I have got to admit that I would not have remembered the lyrics of this version of this song if the Internet did not exist. It has been overshadowed in my mind by a slightly slower version with slightly different lyrics that was used as the theme song of the early 1980s sitcom, Sura Di Tailor (Tunji Oyelana also starred in the sitcom).

This song is on the B side of Unlimited Liability Company (Share-Di-Garri, i.e. Shagari).

Lyrics by Professor Wole Soyinka, sung by Tunji Oyelana:

Tunji Oyelana And The Benders - I Love My Country.

naptu2:
I've posted this many times before, but I'm going to post it again, because I think I'll need it very soon.

The question is, is there anything that this man could not do? He is a great actor, a fantastic comedian and just listen to the music in the video I posted yesterday. Is there anything that he could not do?

This particular song was like a second Nigerian anthem. This is the original version. It's not the version that was used in the sitcom or the version that was used by government.

Lyrics by Wole Soyinka.

Good job naptu.when I saw the topic I knew before opening the thread that the original poster must be you.
One more thing , Naptu you know this gospel song ( "Ese gan ni" or is "Adupe Baba" by Pastor Chigozie Wisdom)? I know it's an adaptation of one old highlife . I've tried so hard to remember the old highlife song but can't find it , it was originally done in Twi or Ga (Ghanaian language) or Igbo . Do you have an idea? ...
Listen to the tune of the "adupe baba by Chigozie" and try and see if you can remember the old highlife song I'm taking about ?

naptu2:
This song!

There used to be a major annual event that attracted a huge number of people from all over Lagos.

Every year, at the end of the event, just after the last speech has ended, a street band will begin to play and this is the song that they always played.

The part that goes, "Omolanke", is not played by the trumpets. No! That part is played by the bass drum. All other instruments fall silent and the bass drum goes, "Dun dun dun dun" and the crowd sing along with it.

The trumpets try to outdo themselves in the other parts of the song, but that part is reserved for the bass drum.

That was how they got the crowd out of the arena. The band kept playing and going out of the arena and the humongous crowd followed them, dancing and singing. Sometimes the musicians would even start playing quietly before the dignitary finishes his speech.

naptu2:
My grandmother once walked to this event! My mum was in shock! At her age! But she insisted on walking.

This is obviously not the original 1960s song. He did it again in 2016.

naptu2:
This is my entire childhood.

Dr Victor Olaiya - Omolanke

Aha! They have arrived. These are the people that will ask me for songs or artistes that have already been posted on the first page. That means that they did not come here to read or enjoy the thread, they simply came here to complain and they started complaining without even reading the posts.
