I never seen a thread with so much herd mentality. If I ask you how a defensive midfielder determines how a team plays you will either tell me he decides if the team play long passes or short or entirely become incoherent. Stop borrowing someone's myopic view about a DM and form an independent opinion not influenced any form of bias.

Only a coach determines how his team plays. If you claim to have knowledge of football tactics, you will easily see that the coach instructs his players not to move out of position and because of that, we don't provide support range during transitions which aids which interchange of passes. Everyone plays rigid and safe and this has nothing to do with which player mans the DM position.

Pep that you idolise, his football philosophy is hinged on providing support range, he said he can forgive his players for making a mistake, but he can't forgive them for not calling for the ball at all times. This means providing support to whomever has possession so he can have options to make a pass. Good football relies heavily on intelligent movement. Playing stiff zonal football will only make you rely excessively on crosses.
