Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 2:55pm On Oct 14, 2022 |
deepsparse: Did you do any work on your vehicle before the noise started? I believe your vehicle has an axle. If you’re sure it’s not from your engine or gearbox then you’d need to further pinpoint the source of the noise. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 2:57pm On Oct 14, 2022 |
Thurmieee: How long have you been driving with this replacement throttle body? The codes could be stored in the ecu and need clearing. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 3:07pm On Oct 14, 2022 |
Thurmieee: No you shouldn’t have allowed the mechanic tamper with the idle on the replacement throttle body. I think you should have returned it and told him to give you another one to test first. You say the behavior of the vehicle didn’t improve after you first changed the throttle body, did you try to at least drive it for a few kilometers before you had to increase the rpm? Is it only when the ac is on that the issue occurs? Meaning does the vehicle drive and shift gears normally without the ac on? |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by nickyosas(m): 3:08pm On Oct 14, 2022 |
hi. so, I cleaned the throttle body, and also the MAF sensor. My RPM on idle now hovers around 800 - 1000 from the previous below 400. I had to also relearn the throttle by leaving the car on idle for more than 5 minutes. Since yesterday, no issues with the AC on park or while driving...However, i have noticed a jerk when the car changes from the first gear to the 2nd. But the AC is not stalling the car and the rpm is not falling below 400 anymore....as at this morning. Thurmieee: |

Hi guys! I noticed my car was consuming too much fuel so I took it to a mechanic on Wednesday. We checked the plugs and he changed it because it was bad,he also cleaned the MAF sensor with abro cleaner because it was dirty. My car started vibrating on cold start today and I have to start it up to three times and check engine light is on. I called the mechanic and he said I must have bought fuel that has water in it and that I should bring the car so he can clean the injectors. I want to know if anyone has experienced this before. Car is 2008 Honda Accord. This is the first time check engine light is showing on the dashboard. |

agoodman:Using abro carburetor cleaner for your MAF sensor was a big mistake. Kindly scan the car and post fault code for remote assistance. |

agoodman: Scan that car. No dey allow kazeem do trial and error with your car. Buy a scanner. you can scan if u suspect any issues yourself and know first hand what is erong with your car. Na you go even tell mechanic what you want him to do on the car. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by agoodman(m): 6:59pm On Oct 14, 2022 |
vivalavida: I only told him to change the plugs and clean the MAF sensor and he did it while I was there. |

I did some work recently but the noise was there before then. I’m quite sure it’s not from the engine but I’m not sure about the gearbox. I’ll do some more investigation. Thanks. Conner44: 1 Like |

Thurmieee: Did you ever scan the vehicle at any point before you commenced replacing the throttle body and these other repairs you performed on the vehicle? I want to know the scan results/codes that the vehicle showed you at the onset of this issue you’re having. Is it the same as the codes that it’s giving you right now? |

Guys you all are doing a great job. I own a 2007 Honda civic. My problem is that when ever I own my AC I do hear like a high noise, it sounds very high and it stays like that till I off it. And at times it does jerk the car so I don't know what the problem could be. Secondly, my horn do seize for a day or two and comes back to life all alone. Finally, the land clearance of the car is too low, most times due to bad roads I don't enjoy driving it. Any solution please. |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Thurmieee: 9:38am On Oct 16, 2022 |
Conner44:Yes I scanned it before I even took it to the meco....no codes. After the fault, that's when the vtech wire cut and those 3 codes came out. After the replacement of the wire the codes are gone but the problem still persists. If this might help the problems started few days after we just changed the head gasket due to overheating. I've changed the pump, service the nozzle, service the map sensor, service the iacv (attached to the throttle body were water enters),checked for blocked exhaust. If this might help ;it doesn't do it that much when the AC is off. But as soon as I on the AC it starts |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 1:52pm On Oct 16, 2022 |
Thurmieee: So, it’s safe to say that your issues started from the overheating episode and head gasket replacement right? From all these you’ve told me there is just one final test to perform. That head gasket you changed has a lot attached to it, if the job was botched it would lead to these symptoms you experienced. Do you know how to check your engine cylinders for compression? |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Thurmieee: 2:52pm On Oct 16, 2022 |
Conner44: No I don't.....and yes the problems started after the gasket change. So how do I check the engine cylinder for compression......the rewire that change the pump said we should recheck the timing... That's what we'll do today 1 Like |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by Conner44: 3:17pm On Oct 16, 2022 |
Thurmieee: Ahh yes, the timing chain not aligned properly or bad timing components too can cause such issues (but normally your vehicle should show a timing related code) as well as knowing if your cylinders have the right compression numbers is very crucial. If the compression is off in one or more cylinders then it means your engine has lost valuable power and stressing it with the ac compressor will make it too weak to run. For methods of checking the engine cylinders for compression you can just go to YouTube and search for “checking Honda K24A engine cylinders compression” and you’d see how it’s done. You will need just a vacuum guage for it. |

Good morning folks. Thank you guys for this wonderful discourse. I wish to return back to driving and I am considering getting a clean naija used 2008 -2010 accord. I have a few I want to inspect within this week. What should I look out for? Any checklist? Also which version is better? 08 to 10 all look the same. Kindly help me as I don’t want t car that will transform me into an assistant mechanic. Thanks a million |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by markpenk: 11:40am On Oct 17, 2022 |
Pretty good car. Moves smoothly and provides an enjoyable ride Choose the 09/10. '08 has oil burn issues plus a few other kinks. Also, pay attention to the inner shaft. It has a tendency to become faulty... I don't know if that's just peculiar to mine, but that's been my experience. Some people don't mind the slight vibration before full acceleration but I do. So I'm pretty anal about that. Oh and the car doesn't tolerate abuse per se. If you commute through bad roads frequently, you WILL visit the mechanic often on account of the arms/legs both at the front and back. Apart from these, the car's great. Good luck in your purchase litigator: 2 Likes |

markpenk: Thanks a million. I am grateful. Just wondering why the car has low second hand value in Nigeria. Just too low when compared with other brands like Toyota, Lexus, bmw, Audi, volks and benz |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by markpenk: 2:17pm On Oct 17, 2022 |
Lol... It's the Naija-herd mentality I think. People don't appreciate the vehicle is all. I think they transferred the phobia for the ball joint failure in the pre-2005 accords to the later models. Yet not once has mine failed even after plying some pretty rough roads. litigator: |

markpenk: Shhhh Stop louding it. Let them keep downgrading the vehicle and leave us to be enjoying it at a very low price 3 Likes |
Re: Maintenance Tips For Honda Cars by markpenk: 3:51pm On Oct 17, 2022 |
Lol... Be like I go edit that part. I still don't understand the herd mentality, but it is what it is. Every time I drive that car, particularly on a long journey, it puts a big smile on my face. @litigator, if you're buying Naija used, make sure you get a well-maintained one. And if it's toks, even better. You'll be glad you did. Conner44: |
