I don't believe it's complicated. We have a love of expensive luxury goods across the board, even when it will impact on our budget

Simple example - any government official vehicle must be a made in Nigeria car. End of story. That will immediately reduce budgetary pressure and also help local manufacturers.

Obj enforced this when he was in office. Everyone was buying Peugeot from senators down.

Right now it is only enforced for security services. You can see them in jac and innoson pickups.

This will also reduce theft because unlike land cruisers and the like, these are not really status vehicles so no one will be inclined to start declaring the cars as accidented so they can aquire for free.

As it is right now govt parastatals are still buying brand new imported vehicles for diff cadres of staff.

As per debt, the west, for better or worse is built on debt. Dangote built his refinery with debt. It is not debt that is the problem, but the abuse of debt. We can see this in the attitude of the poorest Nigerian who is already planning on how to cheat sokoloan and Co out of 10k. And Nigerians who take loans and embezzle them

What does this Man really mean?

Ramdeuter and other defenders of speech blunders.

https://mobile.twitter.com/KnightSirdam/status/1583502645678907397

This is the most straight forward speech ever. He was obviously defending borrowing. Great nations like America, great companies that make cars like Lexus and Mercedes all borrow, most people who buy those cars also take loans which means they borrow, many people also borrow to buy a house in the form of mortgages, many govt officials even use these cars.
On an individual level we love luxury items and they are from money borrowed

So if you're against borrowing you should not patronize those countries and companies. Then seek options

Very nice "RENOVATED SPEECH"
Tinubu has failed your communication criteria. Which chosen field has Tinubu truly exceled in without corruption or any fowl play?

They should not just withdraw the DPO, but they should also investigate the officer that fired the shot that killed the suspect.

FLASH: A massive sigh of relief as Buhari completes the payment of outstanding pension liabilities owed to former staff of Delta Steel Company and NICON Insurance. The 4,691 retirees of NICON and Delta Steel were owed for a combined 149 months by the previous administrations.

This is the justification we're expecting lol.

If he's really want to use made in Nigeria products, like cars you're saying why don't he make it plain.

Based on debt, I know he's justifying why he will borrow, but why will he want to suspend the limit on government spending, this will make him borrow more and more like he wish.

Below will be the effect if his wish was to be applied.

Roland17:

This is why I said in my previous post that I wasn't sure the first screen shot captured the budgetary reform he is planning to pursue.

While infrastructural development is quite expensive, it is dangerous to suspend limits on government spending in Nigeria. We are talking about a country struggling with widespread corruption, revenue generation, foreign trade, high debts and a 20.5% inflation rate. If he succeeds in suspending limits to spending, look for State government to follow suit and the rest will be history. We are already struggling with accountability, it will just get worse.

Roland17 has outlined the problem. Can you outline a solution? Or would you just sit on your hands and watch this country sink into a depression?

Corruption exists everywhere. The problem is that we have made corruption consequence free in Nigeria. All you need is a return of the Obj style scapegoating, and people will fall in line.

This country's main source of revenue is shrinking. There is no way anything can be done without borrowing. As I said before the issue is not borrowing per se, but mismanagement and squandering of borrowed funds. And all this can be managed with controls and consequences.

You may not have noticed that with all this administrations failures, they have delivered on projects. Because they engaged actual professionals more concerned with delivering than with eating. That is how it is done

Incidentally, Construction projects are also financed with debt. Be it bank loan, apg, upfront payment. Very few companies have resources to execute contract with their own cash

Many Nigerians who drive expensive cars borrowed to buy them. That is a fact.

If you think by Lexus he is talking about a 20yr old Lexus 300 or by Mercedes he meant Shagari Benz or Benz 200 then that's on you

If someone says it's harder to build a house you can as well say building a BQ or mud hut is easy

There's no need of suspending the limits on government spending, other government didn't do it, his own shouldn't be different.

Borrow and put it in good use, it still baffles me that government owned refineries re not working (an oil producing state), if they're working, it will help on fuel subsidy removal.

On corruption side, I will adopt Chinese way of fighting corruption (if you're guilty of corruption, sentenced to death, no appeal)

I personally have borrowed and still borrowing

Borrowing for assets is not bad. Borrowing for recurrent expenditure is what's bad

Tinubu has said it before its lack of a credit system and lending that fuels corruption in Nigeria

In America with a small amount you can live in a house and drive a car because you borrow and pay them over time

In Nigeria you must pay cash for everything

A young graduate in Nigeria cannot drive a car unless he can drop 7m cash at once. When won't he steal? If they had given him the option of Borrowing and paying 50k a month. The incentive to steal is reduced

That's how a smart person thinks of resolving country issues not just killing instant death to everyone when you're not under Idi Amin

I have no problem with responsible borrowing as described by Dayo in one of his posts but I disagree with suspending spending limits in Nigeria.

I’d imagine in our respective lives outside here we have spending limits and make budgets for expenses.

That means we will continue swimming in corruption, Nigeria is hard nut to crack on corruption side, if u really want to crack it, you will need a hard solution.

How can person stole billions and will only get some years sentence, small time he will come out and will be looking for another position to enter, some will even be blabbing mouth.

I usually ask my lil brother can he count from 1 to a million, he will said "No" but not that he won't count it but the stress and time it will take to reach a million grin, but somebody that was elected will go and stole billions, Omo naija people get heart oo.

Okay if killing is bad, the years sentence you will get if you're guilty of corruption is the years the amount of money you steal. grin
