Hi Nairalanders, I want to share a personal experience that happened to me this past Friday: 21st Oct 2022.

I got a call from a guy claiming to be a DHL dispatch agent, that he had a package for me. I told him to follow the address on the package to me. He replied that no address was attached but just my name and phone number. I was bewildered for a while. How can DHL accept a package without address? Besides I wasn't expecting anything from anyone. I gave my address to this supposed DHL agent. Only for this guy and other men to show up at my house in a Sienna car and introduced themselves as Intelligent Officers of the police, Ikeja Division, on an assignment sent down from Abuja to investigate Armed Robbery Conspiracy.

I was shocked but didn't show it. I maintained confidence because our police can take slight nervousness as a sign of guilt. They said an armed robbery suspect called me on the phone when I was on a street around Kosofe local govt last month. One of the officers took my phone and dialled the alleged prime suspect's number. Truecaller app showed the guy's name. The officers then asked me why I have the guy's number saved on my phone. I quickly said oga, it's Truecaller app na.. He argued with me but I insisted thats how Truecaller works. The stupid officer had Truecaller on his phone cos i saw it. I said oga, is this not Truecaller on your phone too? He kept quite and his hand was shaking as he was pressing my phone.

I asked what was my conversation with the suspect and if they had it recorded so that I could listen to it. One officer showed me the address the alleged conversation took place and the address coordinate. They failed to explain my conversation with the suspect nor show me the recording because it doesn't exist. I told them I'm into Bolt/Uber business and I don't have any deals with any armed robbery suspect. They concluded that the suspect might be a former Bolt/Uber rider and they left. Before they left, I said let's check my apps to see if throughout last month I entered that street to pick a rider and also check my call logs for traces of past conversation with the suspect's number. By this time, my mama don com and she dey para. My senior brother too follow her. The policemen said I should not worry and they all left but I was made to delete the suspect's number on my phone. One guy in my street greeted one of the officers. I asked him later if he knew the officers. He said yes, that their station is at Shomolu. I was shocked because they said they were from Ikeja.

I got home and checked my ride history. I no enter that street at all at all. About a week ago, I was close to that street because I dropped a lady I drove from Falomo Square Mall around there but not that STREET! I didnt pick anyone again cos it was getting late and I went home straight from there. Could it be that the police are just looking for who to put trouble on his neck and get money?

Very unintelligent people. If i had faltered when I was supposed to insist on Truecaller app responsible for the name display, they would simply just take me away. It was a case of putting trouble on innocent people to reap them.
