Why Is There So Much Sexism And Misogyny In The Programming Field? by Devdevdev(f): 2:06pm On Oct 26, 2022 |
I get quotes from people referring to me as bro, guy and brother. Initially I just ignored, but now it's getting too much. I'm a lady. Stop referring to me as a man. Never have I stated that I'm a male, but probably because I appear smart, knowledgeable and vocal, people just assume me to be a man. This is insulting. A woman can be all these things and more. Not every girl wants to bake cake and sell food. Not every girl wants to be a make-up artiste. Not every girl wants to work in the media. I am a girl and I want to be a software developer and I'm working hard everyday to accomplish this goal. Maybe I'll just add an f to my profile to prevent all these nonsense.. 1 Like |

Why not use the F indicator. Besides I've not seen any form of misogyny here. |

Skodrran: So if I don't use the f indicator I'm automatically assumed to be female? |

Why wouldn't you want to identify to be a male or a female. Besides programming is a male dominated field you expect nairalanders to call you she/her while unidentified. You said this below isn't it the way guys address guys Who knows what you are 2 Likes

@Devdev Did tensa tell you they were male before you addressed them, twice, as "bro"? Or are you looking to troll again like you normally do? 3 Likes |

Devdevdev: You are just confuse. You just said you call everyone bro, male or female and you are crying here like a starving agama lizard that you are being called bro. This is just pure hypocrisy. You are clearly not getting enough attention in your personal life that you have to come here and seek it. There's nothing wrong with that but at least seek attention with sense. 2 Likes |

Devdevdev: Are you saying you don't like people giving you a special accolade for being smart and knowledgeable? And your moniker "Devdevdev"... So, as you refused to set a gender, them go call you bro... cos you acted like a bro. Women are generally very expressive species (which you're doing now) but prior to this moment, I'm not sure you've done anything that actually screems that you're woman. Regardless of the smartness you mentioned. 1 Like |

Ayrastarr: How do we know? Has Tensa ever come out to say they are male? Or are we inferring that they are make because they make very vocal contributions? Is it there safe to infer that all vocal contributors here are male? |
Re: Why Is There So Much Sexism And Misogyny In The Programming Field? by Playermayweda(m): 11:41am On Oct 28, 2022 |
Devdevdev: If you call people bro, and you don't have your gender specified, people will think you're a bro too. Tech is also a male dominated field. It's not a gender war. |

Never have I stated that I'm a male, but probably because I appear smart, knowledgeable and vocal, people just assume me to be a man. This is insulting. A woman can be all these things and more. Sorry about that girl. But then again judging by ur statement of being smart. U ought to have know that IT field is male dominated and for the fact that you didn't indicate ur gender makes ur gender prone to be generalised as a male. Not every girl wants to bake cake and sell food. Not every girl wants to be a make-up artiste. Not every girl wants to work in the media. I am a girl and I want to be a software developer and I'm working hard everyday to accomplish this goal. I love that girl..keep it up. I'll like to have my girlfriend think beyond those perceived feminine roles and profession. |
