You kept them for 9 months? Wow! How did you deal with their constant crowing? I remember I had to sell off my 30 Cockerells off at 5 months when would crow nonstop... Disturbing the whole neighbourhood. How did you handle their crowing?
My compound is spacious and I constructed a cage for them placed a bit far from the building. Their crowing didn't bother me that much.......I only open the cage and allow them walk around the compound when am at home.

That 5months old chicken is ok, not 1month......I enjoyed the last cockerels I reared for 9months because they were very big and matured before i ate them.
It is good to rear birds than buy from poultry vendors. When their birds are 1 months old they put them for sell in other to save cost.

Give them their normal meals O.Their intestine cannot digest some strong food. Why they die in their infant age is as a result of the kind of food they eat when they are release to go and search for food.

Ok dear I have been sticked to their meal strictly an am impressed about their supper growth

To avoid spread of diseases, local chickens were all eliminated. They raise about 2* noilers. Still testing the ground.

Bad idea.... I raise Local fowls, noilers and cockerels together... And they're doing well and even inter-breeding among themselves.
The locals are my hatchers

It can back fire on the long run. Things like this is why many people fail when they try to expand. A lot of things you ignore and get away with at small scale will haunt you at large scale.

I disagree with you Sir...
You slaughtered your local fowls out of FEAR of outbreak of diseases or whatsoever... And you most likely did so because of the testimonies you've HEARD.
I pay very detail attention to my birds (both local and Hybrid), and I am not the type that wait for them to start dying or falling sick before administering drugs (mostly organic) to them.

Mind you, our compound is a fenced one, meaning I don't allow them to crossover and mingle with other fowls in the neighborhood.

And in this same compound, I've successfully reared both foreign turkeys and broilers.

If you understand how diseases are transferred, you won't argue with what I said. So long as wild birds fly in and out of your compound, there are diseases there. Google "farm biosecurity measures."
.
And when I say " large scale", I mean from 1000 birds upward. You are still practicing small scale and so you may go free until you try large scale.

I understand you very well Sir...
And you're right I'm dealing with Small scale
But Like I said earlier, I strictly don't allow them fly out of the compound... Neither are the outsiders allowed to fly inside...
The fence is so high, coupled with flowers that climbs and surrounded it.

Moreover, large scale can't happen in this same compound, except we humans will have to leave the house

I meant that flying birds (not chicken s) can fly into the compound and deposit diseases.

Your typical local birds are disease carriers but have high resistance to most diseases while broilers have even relatively lower resostance to diseases compared to cockerels.

As a farmer I consider this as crap

Sayed and agrited aren't same at all, Sayed grows faster than agrited from week 1-5 but agrited surpasses them in the 6-7week.
Agrited grows magically, week 3-4 you'd wondering if they're even growing enough but week 5-7 you'll see magic growth as long as there's constant feeding.

The last set of Sayed I did had genetics problem, fatty liver. Still building experiences though but imagine out of 200birds about 15 specifically male birds died off on the fourth week due to fatty liver, I don dey fear them.

I saw shege in Yenagoa. My farm was in Tombia, after reaching maturity, I went to swali market in Yenagoa with some birds ( because nobody would buy in Tombia village) to meet the middle men ( women) who buy and sell to consumers. One woman agreed to send his son to my place to clear them. Dude came and offered to buy 1300( as at 2019). They were 2months 2 weeks old. I had no option since my feed has finished and no money for more. He bought some... in my desperation to sell, I went to swali again and met hausa buyers- they promised to come and clear them. Appointed day came, they didn't show up. I took the birds to them , they started giving me annoying bargain. I sold them with no gain. They few ones I left, before my return from the market, they were stolen. The following morning I dropped my feeders and waterers and fled ekpetiama kingdom.

This is interesting. I'm considering setting up a poultry farm for this festive period and I'm confused on which to choose between no 1 and 4 that you mentioned

I think it is rather late, unless your festivities extends to mid January or perhaps you don't plan on starting with DOCs

I have broilers that will be 3 months this end of October

They are very fat and have fat legs

I am raising them for Christmas for my family

I hope by December when they will be 5 months, it won't be too late to consume them

I mean must they be consumed at three months or they can stay beyond three months
I had some that lasted over 2years

I practically do this too as the local hen are climbed by Noiler and she hatches fantastically and you get a good breed

Sorry, what do you mean by DOCs? well I thought broilers are normally ready within 6 weeks, so assuming I start 14 November this year, they should be ready by 23 December I guess

I've done, agrited, chikun and Sayed broilers. Chikun has more resistance to disease but do not grow in group, agrited are the best if done well, regular drugs due to their vulnerablity, have good group growth and nice feed convertion ratio, even more tasty meat.
Sayed will only impress from week1 to week4, the one I did has genetic issue, kidney and liver failure.

Preventing crd means you'll have to watch them from anything dusty(it's the main source), good crd drugs drugs are expensive and funny enough it won't cure them totally, never use sawdust if you're rearing group chicken in smaller space (infact don't use it at all) ventilation is very necessary as well, also avoid excessive ammonia buildup, do regular cleaning.

There's a big difference doing poultry in smaller scale and bigger scale, you can only manage diseases in bigger scale, you can hardly cure it, you don't cure crd, you manage it to the minimum level, it won't be noticeable even, drugs like tylodox extra, tylocare works good.

New Hope feed is great.
