University of Nigeria, Nsukka has met with landlords of its host community to discuss the welfare of students, with focus on their rent arrears over the effect of Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), on students’ finances but ended in deadlock.

It depends.

If the students are the ones paying utility bills, the landlords should be considerate enough to either refund part of the rent or give the students accommodation for some months.

But if the rent covers utility bills (if the landlords pay utility bills from the rent collected), the students should be considerate because the landlords were given at least electricity bills for the 8 months.

Sentiments aside, the strike is not the landlord's problem. Just as the lawyer said, students are tenants and not students. If students want to be students, they should live in the school hostel where rent is counted in sessions and not years.
