The USA has some good internal policies based on a very strong constitution but some of her external or foreign policies are evil. I just hope the drivers can sustain the strike and force the hand of Lagos State government to do something about the excesses of those lazy urchins headed by MC Oluomo.

I mean the Lagos state government banned NURTW in the state, pegged the transport tax to be paid by commercial drivers at ₦800 and we all thought maybe there will be some sanity in the activities of those guys. Unfortunately that has not changed anything, in fact drivers are being forced to part with more than their own profit sef.

I listened to a radio programme today and a commercial driver sent in a text narrating their ordeal. He carries full load for ₦12,600, pays ₦4,000 at the park he loads, he will pay for dropping passengers at Iyana Oworo and Oshodi bus stops. He said the total he pays out of the ₦12,600 to agbero is ₦5,800 then he buys fuel for ₦3,500. At the end of the day he will only have made ₦3,300 on that trip.

Can u imagine parting with a whole ₦5,800 to people who do absolute nothing and he the driver who wakes as early as possible to hustle for his daily bread only makes ₦3,300 from the trip.

This is the kind of nonsense people defend. Even those of us working in formal settings don't get to part away with 46% of our gross income as tax.

If Lagos state government can form a task force that arrests traffic offenders, why can't they have a task force that ensures only the ₦800 announced earlier this year is what motorists are made to pay per day? We all know they won't do that, instead they will turn a blind eye to it and allow MC and his boys do as they like. I saw a tweet from that Gawat boy reacting to the strike and he said " They( the transport workers) have a dispute amongst themselves and it will be sorted out". That should tell u that the government allows this impunity to continue to happen.

How then do you keep the thugs on the street pacified?

There's no employment for them, and they are mostly unemployable anyway

There's no state police. The actual police are also underfunded legally empowered criminals and hoodlums.

LASG's only optionis to continue to expand transportation options through more BRT coverage, trains, boats, etc whilst managing the agbero situation and preventing it from getting too crazy.

Ultimately the bus drivers will have the pass tje cost on to commuters until such a time where the LASG transport network coverage achieves parity(if ever) with the molue/danfo/korope coverage of today.

Abandon all hope all ye who enter or dwell in Nigeria, these problems will not be solved in your lifetime, although there may be a small chance that your grandchildren have it better...
