]The NPA has the power to approve ports in Nigeria and with this power they demand a share of the port. even though the FG did not contribute one naira
Lagos State government also gets a share because they provided the land

The money to build the port was provided 100% by the investor

NPA has approved ports in Akwa Ibom and Delta state so what is happening in those places why can't they find investors?

It really is a shame that Amaechi and Goodluck Jonathan did nothing for the Niger Delta is this aspect or infrastructure

Correct to a certain extent.
Government equity in PPP's are almost always in kind and not cash. Usually by ways and means.
Having said that the reason is obvious why it is harder to find investors for ports in other parts of the country and it boils down to economics and economics 101 and all the advantages Lagos has, markets, capital, etc.

For other port cities to be developed the Federal Government has to be deliberate in increasing its equity and probably placing serious incentives on the table to attract the private sector. To compare the ability of Akwa Ibom and Delta to attract foreign investment of equal value as that of Lagos is like putting Usain Bolt at the 30 metre mark and expecting me top catch him at the finish line. Totally unfair.

The Nigerian economy has not exactly been in a boom for decades making 'blind dates' irresistible. The Lekki port operators have their eye on one thing, feeding off the woes of Apapa just down the coast. If Apapa was doing fine there will be no Lekki Deep Sea.

Rather than quoting without a source tell us the point you are making .
I note you are referencing somthing from 2013 under Jonathan

The reality is that this port

Was delivered by Private money

Neither Lagos State nor the Federal government put in one Naira

Yes GEJ's government made a lot of NOISE about infrastructure like a port at Ibaka, 2nd Niger Bridge Port at Lekki etc none of which m100aterialized

The arrangement here is that Tolaram funded the Port 100%
I agreed

The truth is when you put National interest first, this port was not necessary for Lagos state as at now, Lagos is very tight and congested causing a lot of pain and hardship on commuters with accidents of containers falling of trailers, this port would have been better utilised in other regions of the country in dire need of working ports to reduce the menace In Lagos and also open other regions to easy import and export.

Go to your backward region and set up a similar project. You only need an approval from FG.

Are Ibos not ashamed of wailing and crying?

There's inflation all over the world, not just Nigeria. Nigeria is not an island, whatever affects the whole world is bound to affect Nigeria as well.

Maybe I have a different understanding of WAYS and MEANS/ You are not communicating. What do you mean by that?

Business is not sentiment

The FG has no money for infrastructure. Maybe it did under GEJ when oil prices were high. Did he build any port or major infrastructure in the South of the country?
The fundamental problem with Apapa and Tin Can are the road infrastructure . If there was a rail link to an inland dry dock there would be no issues but for years the FG milked the port without reinvesting to ensure sustainability rather all the money was taken to Abuja and shared. Imagine a situation where Dangote now had to build the expressway

What is needed is rail lines to evacuate the port not roads

By the way the Longest coastline and best place for a port in Nigeria is Ondo state but that has not been developed because of animosity for the SW. It is central and more logical to have a rail link from there to the North than Lagos Ibadan but Lagos has first mover advantage

$1.5bn for just sandfilling that space, dredging the waterfront,do shore protection, tarring that land area, put some cranes for loading and unloading with some building cost this outrageous amount?why do we like over inflating contract in this country?am sure is foreign contractors can't indigenous engineers dredge,do shore protection, build a tarmac?no wonder $$$$$ is rising out of control.
This will only make sense if the port is use for exporting finish products rather than importing.

There have been complains of business men in other regions about accessibility to import and export because there are no proper functioning ports in other regions, imagine someone in sokoto will have to transport his goods all the way to Lagos just to export and then same with import, if there were closer ports at least not in sokoto but before Lagos at least it will reduce the burden for such and also reduce congestion in Lagos and make businesses and goods cheaper, the FG just like they built railway should have done this a long time ago without waiting for any state government, this is for the benefit of everyone, job creation and so on.

Excuses, excuses and excuse is all you are giving. Some of you just regurgitate propaganda like robots without any form of critical thinking, and wish it to be true. So let’s even go to with your thinking and assume the stalling of the Akwa Ibom and Delta ports (that have since been concessioned with no single progress) is the fault or the FG, how is the completion of the one in Lagos a problem? Isn’t it to serve Nigerians from all tribes still? Or would you rather the stakeholders abandon it like those of Delta, Akwa Ibom? Just so to appease your sense or envy? You guys should stop this crab in the barrel mentality just because of hatred driven by political sentiments. Elections will come and go, but these infrastructure will power more businesses. It’s not every thread you should be commenting on and spewing pain and hate. It’s okay to overlook some at the risk of sounding really imbecilic.

Nice project.

In a productive country like china or most of asia, this is a $200 million project max, with various operating installations included, in america, depending on speed, this $250 million to $300 million; in Europe, this is a $400 to $450 million project. For us, without the equipment and the expertise, this is suppose to be $750 to $800 million max. And that is still too much.

If we keep on like this, we won't build many projects like we are supposed to. it is good we are building, even if it's one, but let us not let aprico, excess greed, and lack of expertise limit us or restrict us.

Nigeria is a very expensive place to do stuff and the simple reason for this is that we are an 'industrialization' desert.
The things that make those projects cheaper in those places are all related to local content. Those countries make or manufacture a lot of the things that go into production, construction or installation.

Here, I think all we produce in such volumes that is relevant to engineering projects is cement. That's all. That is why Dangote despite having a plethora of factories is 'sweating' to get his petro-complex finished, the bulk material used for the works is steel, not cement so he has to pay premium to get it done.

It remains strategically naive to ignore the metals and metallurgical industry if a nation wants to develop in a competitive manner. Even countries without the raw materials needed to produce stuff master their steel industries before venturing and diverting into more complex production plants. The railways, refineries, industrial plants, power stations, etc are all heavily reliant on metals.

This fact is lost on Nigeria with the moribund, serially bungled Ajaokuta unending nightmare. The poster child for all that is holding us back as an underdeveloped, third world country. Sometimes it feels like a some sick, dark cloud of voodoo is hanging over that place.

You keep parroting congestion in Lagos without logic
Congestion if it exists is about inefficiency
There are countries with ports 10 X busier than Lagos and the Port cities have less than 100000 people. There are landlocked countries with more efficient importation infrastructure
So it is not about having ports everywhere

The reality is which FG should have built port in other regions
Buhari
Jonathan
Obasanjo
or Abacha

and with which money?

Tell us which FG project should have been scrapped instead just one please?

Maybe if you say they should not have built Abuja I might agree

The reality is the FG has not had that kind of money for a long time

Even the Lagos Port they just milk without putting anything into Lagos since 1991 allowing the infrastructure to decay
