agitator: No you don't. If Nigeria wants good quality...we have to earn more money.,...and that is where voting in a government that raises our GDP,and our tax to gdp ratio comes in. Right now, we rely mostly on oil for our revenue. On a good day, oil can yield, at 1.8m bpd...at 100 dollars a barrel...something like 70bn dollars a year. . Keep in mind that oil prices for the last 10 years have been mostly below 80 dollars, sometimes as low as 50 dollars a barrel.sometimes less....so we don;t earn much money. At the end, we have to become a producer nation...not a nation of sell raw material, share the money...while a country takes the raw material and uses it to make products ten times the value of the raw materials..(one year an african country sold cocoa for 2 billion dollars. Part of that cocoa was bought by a chocollate company...and sold for 17bn dollars. ). The thing is it involves hard choices like. 1.Removing subsides on petrol and power....which would cause harship...BUT...also attract billons of dollars in investment and yield billions in export revenue, as any profts are reinvested in both sectors...which would grow...AND theoretically export a lot of stuff (Niger has a working refinery because the fuel they sell from the refinery is sold at N350 aand above. And they have crude oil deposits. AND...they can export because their refinery works.) 2.Rasing our tax to gdp ratio...and making sure the 70% of the population that does not pay to federal and state coffers pay. 3.Encouraging techincal and vocational education...to have a good workforce for 4.Industrial develoipment...which can use our raw materials to produce industrial goods...for export....at a price we control. (And the Americans would love it...if we were producing phones for example...and exporting them...it could bring down consumer prices...which is good news for western governemtns and their argument about cost of livin). You want good services...then you have to make more than what we make right now...and really really fight corruption....because if we don't, we would still lose. The US, UK and so on can afford all the goodies because they pay for them very well...including their low income earners...and yes, their low income earners complain very well. (Go and read about the US healthcare crisis...for example.). PS Communist countries like East Germany, North Korea, and the USSR, did what you want...they provided high quality service including transport, at very low cost. Infact, they provided a lot of high quality stuff (in the DDR, housing rent was kept below 3 dollars a month, for e xample)....by the 1980's keeping such things cheap meant they had a heavy duty EXTERNAL AND INTERNAL debt running into billions. This debt is one of the reasons why they collapsed....or like North Korea, are on life support from the Chinese (the chinese hate doing it, but they don't want a US armed untied Korea on their border either...so). At the end, people want to be paid. And that includes the people who work for transport services, people who sell the buses, people who make the buses, people who repair the busses...even people who clean the busses...they are mostly ordinary Nigerians like u and me...and foriegners. Either we pay them their price, or we get bad service because...we are poor. PPS All the countries you mentioned tax their citizens well, and are all diversified economies, with actively exporting industrial sectors. Meaning they can set the prices of what they produce, and mine a lotof income. Nigeria is earning only from oil....and oil price is not set by us. We cannot raise the price of our oil to 200 dollars a barrel unilaterally...our buyers will go to where it is cheaper. |

Some governors are so either very wicked or just imbeciles. I don't know who Okezie Ikpeazu is, but Nigerians deserve better. It's a pity. He and others will surely pay for their actions. |

angelfallz: States owned railways could start at a modest level e.g. one long line, right across the state, or 50 miles long - whatever is finically manageable in terms of state budget . This, supported by busses. Rail ecosystem is enlarged over time.... 1 Like |
