codemaniacs: What I wrote there wasn't from my thinking..it is an analysis of how the modern game is . You can prove me wrong... How many top wingers in today's game are still playing crosses? How many top teams still use that style? In fact, how many wingers still play the traditional style of wingers hugging the touchline? Name some of them for me... |

fabyom: Who is Robinson? Is Trent a winger? Trent is one of the main source of creativity in Klopp's system..He and Salah play the same wings, you won't see Salah playing crosses into the box.. that clearly highlight my point that in the modern game, wingers don't do much crossing of the ball.. Somebody said our wingers should be crossing the ball for Onuachu... |

Danielnino00: Funny enough, Bassey can cross a ball well but he is our best CB at the moment and will be wasted at LB 1 Like |

Danielnino00: football is football nothing like modern game... In a counter attack it's mostly the striker or wingers that run with the ball forward and they are the ones that will play the crosses into the box.. Every top team uses that style.. its either the winger plays a cross or passes into the box or cuts into the box then shoots or passes.... the wings are very useful when it comes to chance creation... Brazil vs Ghana match, most of the goals Ghana conceded were from crosses into the box, Vinicius Junior and Raphinha were playing crosses into box... 2 of Osimhen's goals for his hat-trick were from crosses into the box one from the winger Kvara and other from the Right Fullback.. |

Danielnino00: But our wingers aren’t of the same quality as those you mentioned na. They can’t play as other wingers are playing they lack the skill set. Isn’t it better to play cross and head than play dribbling into the box that they’re not good at |

typicalgamer:Belgium league might not be rated but he's still amongst the top performers there. If stats are not an important metric for you what then is, since when did "watch football match at all" become a metric? Define watch match at all and how Vlahovic is an eyesore |

Danielnino00:In a 4-3-3 it is the wing backs that crosses. Robertson and Trent does the crossing. Wingers often time square play. Liverpool scores from a lot of crosses. Onachu scored his goals under Rohr in a 4-3-3 system. |

typicalgamer: I am with Danielnino00 on this. Modern set up has three forwards. Not wingers. They help increase the numerical strength around the box and also bring the ball into the offensive third. They also create gaps at the wide areas with their runs into the box. This giving the wing backs and offensive midfielders space to use that area for crossing. 1 Like |

TheGoodJoe: Call it Whatever you modern football has 3 forwards come on now let’s be real You think all team plays 433 or 343 When smaller teams play a top team the format of 3 players up to gets scrapped |

codemaniacs: Amuneke revealed: “I will be engaging with coaches in three cities in Nigeria and I’m looking forward to it. I love sharing knowledge and there’s a lot in modern football to expose these coaches to. “I hope the coaches come with an open mind to learn a lot because I’m prepared to bless them with some fantastic details about the latest techniques in modern coaching.” https://www.thisdaylive.com/index.php/2021/07/29/amuneke-to-train-coaches-in-three-nigerian-cities/ There is definitely modern ideas of coaching that is totally different from what we were exposed to. |

typicalgamer: I think I will put it this way. My phrasing was wrong. Most modern set up have three forwards. Today, Manchester City played with Alvarez, Grealish and Bernardo Silva. |

typicalgamer: So, that is what Danielnino00 is saying. We should hinge more on the modern ideas than sticking to the old methods of having the wide offensive players drifting wide and crossing balls. |

TheGoodJoe: Now you’re talking but always remember 70% of teams can’t afford to play like this 100% of the time except you’re a big club. Imagine Nottingham against city They rather fall back leave 1 man up top and always wait for a fast break counter before they’ll consider aligning a 3 man upward |

fabyom: typicalgamer: Why are you pretending like you didn't understand my point? The person I quoted was saying our wingers should be crossing the ball more when Onuachu starts..my point is that wingers in this era don't cross the ball often like before.. it's fullbacks that do .. Liverpool is an example of such team..Same with city.. Robertson and Trent aren't wingers.. they are fullbacks... 1 Like 1 Share |
